Bombers Fly High in the Reserves
Wirrulla probably felt as relieved as they did jubilant. After the past few years where they fell at the final hurdle, no stone was left unturned and no pre celebrating as they methodically went about winning this match, full concentration to the very end, and a richly deserved Premiership.
Coach Andrew Patterson quietly took in the final moments and also the presentations, no doubt the gravity of his teams win now starting to hit home along with a few celebratory refreshments.
The match was close until the final quarter when the Bombers started to pull away, and their class forward line stepping right up.
LW Feltus Medal winner for best player in the Grand Final was Daniel Theunans. Pretty much unanimous by everyone who watched the match, his ruck work and around the ground efforts were fantastic. Four quarters and he just didn’t stop. Ollie McCallum, either defensively, through the centre and even up forward for a rare goal, played an outstanding game, ending a great season for him personally also. Robbie Marshall and Chad Guelfi are highly skilled and gave plenty all day. Troy Olsen (4 goals) and Lynton Pym (2 goals) work well together; both go to forwards but never seem to compete in the same contest. They looked dangerous all match and when the Bombers were making their final premiership surge, these blokes stood up and stood out! Jake Adamson, Shane Pittaway, Shaun Kellsall and Saul Webb all had big games. Captain Daryl Lawrie played a poised captains game and probably none prouder at the end, really a complete team game by the Bombers who proved themselves the best side over the year.
The Magpies were around the mark all day, never quite getting a run on. Coach Graham (Dougy) Walters did have the team playing well at the right time, so he will be satisfied that his charges did themselves proud. David Moyse again led the way for the Maggies, plenty of hard won footy and brings others into the game. The Galloping Bull - Zane Petty, strong and hard. He plays at his best in finals type football, always has. Kevin Cummings had the huge Troy Olsen assignment and played his role well, running off when the ball hit the ground and never flinching in any contest, he loves the challenge. Tom DuBois finished his year off in great fashion and Ryan Cummings provided plenty of creative run.
Wirrulla are known for their enjoyment of the post Grand Final period, and this one will be very sweet, adding to netball success, their cup will be regularly full.
Congratulations to the Bombers, a well-earned 2014 Premiership Flag for the wall
