Rockville Oval, Tor Street - Toowoomba
Nearly 12 months ago, these two sides found themselves playing off in the Under 16 Grand-Final but this year they go head to head for the final spot in the 2014 decider.
Coolaroo will play the Dalby Swans in the McDonald's Cup Preliminary Final.
The Roos and Swans both finished on 10wins, 3 losses and 1 draw for a total season tally of 42-points for the home and away fixture. Coolaroo bagged the double chance with their superior percentage, almost 65% greater than that of the Swans.
Dalby went through last year’s home and away season undefeated, however a gutsy performance by the Roos, saw them upset the Swans by 11-points on Grand-Final day.
The reigning premiers have a far better offensive and defensive record this season, than that of their opponent the Swans. Coolaroo come in ranked second in both statistics. However Dalby were ranked 4th for offensive and 3rd for defensive scores against.
Does that statistic matter now, not really.
Both sides have star studded line ups and know how each other plays. Coolaroo; however have the advantage over the Swannies, mentally after the 2013 premiership. A lot though has changed since then and a new crop of bottom-age players have come through.
And this is where the game will be won, the next generation, bottom age players.
The impact of Roos Kale Ross, Luke Perrin and Ben Southey will be pivotal to the reigning premiers having a shot at back to back flags. Samuel Daff, Joseph McVeigh and Macen Allen are in-form and their output will be very important if the Swannies are to play in the decider again.
Coolaroo defeated Dalby to the tune of 103 points in round 10; however the Swannies quickly turned the tables in round 14 with their hard fought 18-point victory.
With a grand-final spot up for grabs, this is sure to be a blockbuster match of epic proportions.
