MATCH DETAILS - U12 Preliminary Final
South Toowoomba V Highfields
9:45am
Saturday 13th September, 2014
Rockville Oval, Tor Street - Toowoomba
South Toowoomba is focused on doing the little things right and enjoying their football when they come up against the in-form Lions at Rockville Oval on Saturday morning.
According to Bombers coach Jay Anderson, they aren't concerned about just one player but the whole Lions outfit.
"We totally respect the Highfields Lions and they are a team we are not taking lightly," Coach Anderson told DarlingDowns.AFLQ.com.au.
"Our players are fully aware that they must be accountable at all times, no excuses," Anderson added.
Last week’s loss to University came down to one quarter and that was the second term, when the Bombers had their backs up against the wall with the strong wind favouring the Cougars. University booted three quick goals but could of been more if they converted their 7 other shots on goal.
Anderson said that the Bombers have been working hard on the training track, as they know Highfields are a team that can score quick consecutive goals.
"They have the ability to score quickly and play an attacking, aggressive brand of football."
"The game on Saturday is all about doing the all 1% well and working together as a team.
"This week we have focused on using your strengths, being first to the ball, tackling hard and making the right decisions," he said.
South Toowoomba has won both meetings between these two clubs this season but they haven't been easy wins.
In round 3, the Bombers record a 7.11 (53) to 3.2 (20) victory at the neutral venue of Rockville Oval. It was a 5-goal to zero opening half that set up the victory with the Lions playing catch up for the rest of the morning. In the other fixture out at Kratzke Oval in Highfields, the Bombers were made to work for their 28-point, round 12 win.
The Lions held the lead early but South Toowoomba ran riot, keeping Highfields goal-less until the final quarter.
Both sides have impressive players but one match is a key to each side’s chances of victory and advancing to the 2014 decider.
Jackson Montgomery (Bombers) V Jayden Lawson (Lions)
Both players have played 16-games this season, with both their respective sides most consistent player. Lawson plays more of a defensive sweeping role, whereas Montgomery is a hard, in and under midfielder that loves to push forward and kick goals.
We may not see Montgomery and Lawson standing side by side but the impact these two players can have on the contest, be it positive will boost their side’s chances of victory.
____________
Win this game and off to the Grand-Final next Saturday morning at 9:10am, while losing and the off-season begins.
