Who will soar the highest, Bombers or Swans?
The reigning premiers South Toowoomba stated earlier in week that they are going to play their footy and that is how they are going to claim back to back titles.
Dalby in just their first season in the Women's competition have gone from strength to strength, making the decider is a massive achievement in itself. However, they have proven the Bombers are not undefeatable and they proved that this year.
South Toowoomba's 19 game winning streak came to an end in round 18, when the Swannies recorded a 42-point victory out at their Dalby Owen Street Oval.
The season has doubled in size since the inaugural year 2013, along with the match intensity and both sides are starting to feel the effects. Both sides have several players carrying injuries into the decider and this could impact the final result.
Where and when: Rockville Oval, Sunday 14th September 12:30pm
The six points
1. The Bombers have won two matches over the Swans this season, with their last a fortnight ago in the Qualifying final but the Swannies know they can beat the Bombers after their round 18 victory.
2. Dalby is searching for the club's first senior premiership since 1995. The clubs division 2 men's side defeated Goondiwindi that year. However, the Bombers are looking to go back to back flags and will look to continue the current 19-year premiership draught at Dalby AFC.
3. South Toowoomba and Dalby have met only once at Rockville Oval this season and that was back in round 6, where the Bombers ran out 9-point victors. It was an intense low-scoring affair where Isabelle Baldock and Rebekah Rogers ran riot.
4. As with all finals games, experience in finals counts for everything. South Toowoomba have played on the big stage and done it all before, they have the big game players. Dalby have several players who have played in junior Grand-Finals before but this is senior footy and Bombers have the edge with experience.
5. Both sides have fantastic offensive and defensive records, ranked number one and two respectively. South Toowoomba is ranked slightly better than that of their opponents, proven by their superior home and away percentage of 894.2 to the Swans 498.1. However that statistic means nothing in the decider.
6. All ten of the top 10 Blackchrome Cup leading goal-kickers come from either Dalby or South Toowoomba. The Swannies boast the two best forwards in the competition, in Alison Gaur and Shaye Easton. Both these players give Dalby the edge up forward.
Players to watch
#5 South Toowoomba: Isabelle Baldock - Hard running midfielder, with an exceptional vertical leap and lightning pace over 20-30m. Plays a more defensive role but can go forward an impact the scoreboard.
#12 South Toowoomba: Tamera Polzin - Medium size forward, first class ability to win the one on one footy and knows where the goals are. Second to none in pressure acts, flown under the radar all season, until now.
#24 South Toowoomba: Rebecca McInnes - Strong marking key forward, has added another string to her bow this season by playing behind the footy in defensive role. Natural leader and leads by example on-field.
#3 Dalby: Brigid Gaur - Agile midfielder that is lightning quick and superb tackler. Loves to push forward and kick uncanny goals and did we mention quick?
#6 Dalby: Melissa Phillips - Utility type player, can play small or tall and can run all day. Very good outside runner and leads by example. Superb workrate.
#16 Dalby: Shaye Easton - Another strong marking forward, can play at both ends but plays her best footy deep inside forward footy. Fantastic contested mark and long range radar when kicking for goal.
Picking the Winner
Most tipsters are leaning towards South Toowoomba, as will be revealed on Friday with the special guest Grand-Final tips. However, don't write off the Swannies they have a list of very, very good players. This should be a close contest, nothing more than a goal either way.
The final say
South Toowoomba go into this game as red hot favourites, which is the straight forward answer. Teams don't win 19 games straight on the back of just talent. The Bombers work hard and work hard for each other and Dalby have their work cut out for them.
Dalby need to continue what they have done all season and play their style of footy. Slow down play and create as many stoppages as possible to halt the Bombers running game.
The Bombers big three in Isabelle Baldock, Chloe MacDonald and Georgie Seaniger are key and if the Swans can find a way to stop the impact of these three that will go a long way in deciding the outcome. However, Jodie Ingleton, Danielle Wall and Jayne Finlay are the prime movers for the Swans and the red and black will need to watch the Swans trio.
