#AFLDDHeatherGreenMedal
The race for the Women's competition best and fairest award, the Heather Green Medal is a wide open race.
It is predicted to be close race going by the PGP/TIB prediction system. Any player from the six Blackchrome Cup sides could take home the regions highest individual honour for female footballers.
DarlingDowns.AFLQ.com.au takes a look at each clubs favourite and smokey.
COOLAROO
Favourite: Jade Hose - The Roos key position player Jade Hose has been a standout all season and was the key cog behind the navy Roos third place finish in their debut season. Hose has an 'x' factor about her and this would of stood out to the umpires on match day, her ability to break the lines and take strong contested marks has Hose as one of the favourites come the vote count.
Smokey: Michelle Horsfall - Not much has been talked about the Roos most consistent player in Horsfall but the defensive, ultimate team orientated player might just be a smokey in her first season. She isn't as flashy as Hose but always contributed at consistently high level.
DALBY SWANS
Favourite: Danielle Wall - The 2013 joint Heather Green Medallist has had another fantastic year, leading the Swans in almost every statistic. Her long penetrating disposals and physical style of footy stood out most and Wall is the key driver behind the Swans Grand-Final appearance.
Smokey: Alison Gaur - The elusive forward kicked 36-goals in the regular season, Gaur isn't a strong marking type forward but more an agile, very quick forward that kicks the uncanniest of goals. Gaur kicked 5 or more goals on 4 occasions and with the Swans winning more games than they lost, the Swans forward could just be a smokey for the HG Medal.
GOONDIWINDI HAWKS
Favourite: Jessica Bell - The hard in and under midfielder has had a fantastic debut in the Women's competition, kicking goals and involved in a majority of the Hawks scores this season. Her ability to win the one on one footy and her willingness to never give up will no doubt draw votes from the umpires. With the Hawks making the finals, this usually means the favourite should poll votes.
Smokey: Dianne Naismith - Played every game for the Hawks and finished on top of the Hawks goal-kicking ladder. Goal-kickers are known for receiving votes and this experienced Hawk who shouldered majority of the Goondiwindi work-load inside forward 50, is a definite smokey for the 2014 HG Medal.
LOCKYER VALLEY DEMONS
Favourite: Monique Gould - At just 16 years of age, Gould representative the region in the Women's talent game in Kingaroy and has had an outstanding season with the Dees. Her pace and ability to run all day is her eye catching attribute that would no doubt attract votes. A player with potential for a massive future is no doubt a favourite for the HG Medal.
Smokey: Chantelle Britton - Playing every game for the Demons will put Britton in the best position to poll votes on Saturday. Her ability to play forward and back, stands out most and may just sneak under the radar and snatch the 2014 Heather Green Medal.
SOUTH TOOWOOMBA BOMBERS
Favourite: Isabelle Baldock - The most decorated female footballer ever from the Darling Downs only has one individual award to add to her ever growing list of individual accolades. Baldock is the favourite to take out the 2014 best and fairest, with 5 out of her 9 games she is predicted to collect the maximum three votes from the umpires.
Smokey: Chloe MacDonald - Only in her first ever season of Australian Rules, 15 year old MacDonald has picked up our great game very quickly. She has taken on massive roles when star players such as Seaniger and Baldock aren't available and she is an elite outsider runner. MacDonald will not doubt attract votes and may just be the smokey that takes out the Medal.
WARWICK REDBACKS
Favourite: Cassandra Cullen - Cullen was one of three players, to play just about every match for the Redback's this season. No doubt she will have the Reddies best and fairest medal around her neck at the clubs presentation night and may just add a Heather Green medal to that collection. However, Cullen's side Warwick did finish on the bottom of the ladder and this may hurt her chances of collecting the 3-votes in matches.
Smokey: Vicki Kirkland - One of the more experienced Redback's has had a fantastic season, with 10 matches over the year Kirkland has been a consistent contributor to the Redback's campaign. A player that leads by example on field and is the ultimate team player may just be the smokey that takes home the Heather Green Medal.
