#AFLDDHolmanMedal
2014 will mark the 44th annual Holman Medal vote count, as AFL Darling Downs name the fairest and best player from the season.
Six current players across the Division 1 competition have won the regions highest individual honour, will one of this crop win the medal again or will we be crowning a new Holman Medalist this year. The Holman Medal is voted on by the officiated umpires of that particular game, giving 3-2-1 votes to the players they judge as the fairest and best for that particular game.
Votes are then sealed and delivered to the AFL Darling Downs executive, where they are locked away until presentation night. Only the umpires that voted know any particular game votes but only one person knows who the overall winner is.
Only two players have ever won the medal three times, current player Brendan Iles (Warwick AFC) won the medal in 2009, 2010, 2011 and past Coolaroo great John Green was judged the fairest and best player receiving the Holman Medal in 84,85,86.
DarlingDowns.AFLQ.com.au have completed our own predictor for the counts top 10 and look at the past winners currently playing and their chances of securing the prestigious accolade.
PAST WINNERS CURRENTLY PLAYING
Kurt Millard - The 2013 Holman Medalist only played 9 regular season games this season as he battled ongoing injury that kept him from playing. Millard appeared in the Redback's best 5 times out of 9 games and was important in the teams wins over University (rd4) and Highfields (rd10)
Brendan Iles - The three-time Holman Medalist has had another fantastic season, leading the Redback's to the minor premiership. He is a natural ball-getter and the Reddies spiritual leader on-field. Playing in 15 regular season games and appearing in the Redback's top 3 players all but twice, could mean Iles is on his way to his fourth Holman Medal.
Jeff Neumann - In 2009 Neumann tied the vote count with Iles from Warwick, with Neumann the last Holman Medalist to play in a premiership side. He has been South Toowoomba's most consistent player this season featuring in the Bombers best 11 out of 12 games. South Toowoomba did finish outside the top 4, which will hurt his chances at a second Medal.
Phil Dreise - The 2007 Holman Medalist has been restricted this season playing a more deeper forward role than normal with the Roos. Dreise has had is most outstanding season but with 13 games and 45 goals for the regular season, no doubt the '07 medalist will feature this Holman night.
Steve Collett - The Goondiwindi veteran played 10-games this year, with the '06 medalist winding back the clock. He may have not been back to his '06 form but Collett did play important role in the Hawks upset win over the Cougars in round 11 and feature in the Hawks best on 3 other occasions. We may just see the veteran poll once again.
Keith Webb - 2005 medalist Webb played 12 games this season, playing important roles in the Bombers wins throughout the season. Named in the Bombers best 5-times, Webb played more of an impact role and dominated games at different stages. Webb's named should be read out at some stage this Saturday night.
