Today the finals begin with Benalla and Euroa starting the day’s entertainment at Mansfield at 10am. This is a completely new ball game because of players coming back from reserve or senior campaigns to help their team mates win a flag.
The Saints have only dropped three games for the season while the Magpies have failed to finish in front on just four occasions. Wally ARMSTRONG has done an excellent job with the Saints and likewise, Gavin WILLIAMS has bought the Pies a long way.
Tomorrow at Tatura, Echuca and Kyabram clash in what should be another great game of the Under 18 football. Two former GVFL stars, Phillip EVANS (Echuca) and “Rusty” McDONELL (Kyabram) have taught their boys all they known along the way to the elimination final with Echuca finishing third and the Bombers sixth.
In the other elimination at Rochester tomorrow, Mooroopna and Seymour go head to head.
The Cats under the guidance of Robert OSBORNE finished fourth on the ladder and Seymour with former Lions star Matt O’SULLIVAN in charge. “Ossie” is in for a big day with coaching duties to start the proceedings off, followed by responsibility for kicking goals in the seniors. Kyabram star, Paul NEWMAN, did it last season with the Bombers, winning a double, can Ossie do it this year with the Cats.
The Lions are a power unit once they get all their Assumption College boys back and on Saturday they gave an indication of what is to come when they downed the Saints by 24 points.
