Reddies book home qualifying final
Warwick claimed an impressive 18.13 (121) to 7.2 (44) victory over South Toowoomba on Saturday to claim bragging rights and the minor premiership heading into the 2014 finals.
In miserable conditions, it was a close contest in the opening stanza with the Redback's holding a slender 1-point lead. However, Warwick made the most of a strong south westerly breeze booting 7-majors in a second quarter blitz.
South Toowoomba was only able to kick the one major, with Warwick taking an important 39-point lead into the long break.
The Bombers got the better of the Redback's in the third quarter, as the run and carry sliced Warwick open at different stages. South Toowoomba kicked three straight for the term with Warwick kicking 2.3 in a tight tussle.
Up by 37-points and with the wind in the final term, it was only a matter of by how much.
The flood gates opened in the final term with Warwick flexing their muscles with six majors for the quarter. The victory see Warwick claim the 2014 Division 1 minor premiership and locked in a qualifying final against University at home in two weeks’ time.
Finalists gain momentum in final regular fixtures
University, Coolaroo and Goondiwindi have gained the all-important win, which means they are all carrying momentum heading into the 2014 finals series.
The Hawks had a must win game against Toowoomba at Riddles Oval and Goondiwindi came away with the 'goods' as they romped to a 27.16 (178) to 10.3 (63) victory over the Tigers. Jason Evans in just his sixth game of the season booted game high 8-goals to lead the Hawks into back to back finals appearances.
Reigning Premiers Coolaroo tamed the Lions at Gold Park on Sunday afternoon, with young, small forward Adam Green booting 9 goals and taking the lead in the John Green Trophy. It was an impressive victory and one the Roo's faithful will be delighted with.
2013 Grand-Finalists University fine-tuned their structures with their big win over Lockyer Valley at Baker Street. The biggest victory for the Cougars is no doubt the way they finished the game, running riot in the final quarter with an impressive 11-goal blitz.
