Will it be a former AFL player, a current AFL listed player, a first year VFL forward or other contender that takes the title?
The race for the 2014 Frosty Miller Medal is certainly wide open going into the final round of the season, with just one goal separating the top four contenders for the VFL’s goal kicking award.
Richmond’s Liam McBean and Port Melbourne’s Dan Connors share the lead on 35 goals, with early season leaders Werribee’s Ben Warren and Coburg’s Lech Featherstone both sitting on 34 goals.
Also in the mix is Box Hill Hawk Sam Grimley, who after six goals on the weekend sits just four goals off the pace along with Jack Redpath (Footscray) on 31, followed by Trent Dennis Lane (Sandringham) and Mason Wood (Werribee) still within striking distance on 30 goals apiece.
The battle for the 2014 title is eerily similar to the 2013 finale, which was not decided till the final game of the home and away season, as Port Melbourne’s Dean Galea claimed the award with six goals against Coburg to deny Frankston’s Michael Lourey of the honour.
Grimley will be the first to lodge his total for the season this weekend, featuring in the ABC TV game as Box Hill Hawks host Northern Blues. He has kicked 31 goals from 14 games this season, with Round 18 against Frankston the only match he has not registered at least one goal in a game.
Connors lines up for the Borough on Saturday afternoon against North Ballarat and has been the form goal kicker of the group, having kicked 35 goals from just 11 matches; 23 of those coming in the last six games.

With the target to be set by Connors, McBean will be the next to give chase, as the Tigers host Footscray on Sunday at 1pm. After kicking 12 goals in his first six games, McBean has been the main target up forward for the Tigers in the last six rounds with 22 majors.
Then the title race will be left to just one, as Warren will be sitting on the sidelines due to suspension as Werribee heads to Frankston Oval to face Frankston, and Featherstone remains the only contender as he makes the long drive to Casey Fields as the Lions tackle Casey Scorpions.
It will be a thrilling finale to the goal kicking title race – be sure to follow #RaceforFrosty on twitter to keep up with all the goal kicking action across the weekend.
