“VICTORIAN COACH OF THE YEAR AWARDS”
The Gotafe Goulburn Valley Football League Board Members at their most recent meeting held on Monday last August 11 unanimously selected Benalla Senior Coach Luke MORGAN and Euroa Under 18 Coach Gavin WILLIAMS Senior and Youth category respectively as the League’s nominees for participation in the Goulburn Murray Coaches Association Awards night to be held at the Barooga Sports Club on Wednesday September 24, 2014. Guest speaker will be former North Melbourne premiership player Brett ALLISON.
Selected coaches from Major, District & Junior League’s as well as auskick co-coordinators will be vying for the chance to represent the Goulburn Murray Area at a future venue and date. Luke was the Goulburn Valley’s nominee last year, we are keeping our fingers crossed hoping he can gain top recognition this year. Luke is a fantastic role model to his peers and is a great ambassador for the Benalla Saints not only in Benalla, but across a much wider region as many sporting and community organizations are keenly interested in his story and his role in the transformation of the Benalla Saints. He provides sound and stable leadership, remains cool and clear thinking in a crisis, and is vey respectful to young and not so young.
Luke provided great leadership and was a fantastic sounding board to Benalla’s young group in what has been a hugely emotional year for the Benalla Sports Club. Yet to be beaten Benalla Saints are warm favorites to take premiership honors.
The Goulburn Valley Football League’s Youth nominee Gavin WILLIAMS is a Euroa boy through and through. Not to many would commit to coaching a team which spent a year in recess a couple of years ago.
In looking at taking on the role of under 18 coach in 2014 Gavin knew he had a core of talented players, but also knew when he committed taking on the position that he only had 12 or 13 players available through his passion for football in general, but specifically for the Euroa Football Netball he has been able to bring together a group that loves playing together and has attracted players to the club because of the close knit nature of this side. This has extended to the permitted use of overage players, with the players used in this role being vey much a part of the side and enjoying their extra year of footy immensely.
