Foggy footy, the girls are here and finals is the talk
1. Both the Under 12's and Under 16's finals top 4 are set, with just final positions to be decided. However the Under 14 top 4 is yet to be locked away. The winner of Coolaroo and South Burnett in the McDonald's Shield will advance to finals but it will be to the cost of the Highfields Lions who have the bye this weekend.
2. Trials were held for the inaugural Darling Downs Under 17 youth girls side over Sunday and Monday, with 63 girls putting their hand up for the trials it is a mammoth task for selectors. Though with 63, it seems AFL Darling Downs will be having a youth girls competition sooner rather than later.
3. University player Callum Banim reached the 50 goals for the season mark, an incredible feat for the young player. He joins Tom Clark (U16 Highfields), James Sprason (U16 Coolaroo) kick 50 or more goals this season. Warwick's Jack Fletcher may join the trio, as the Redback's Under 16 sitting on 49 season goals.
4. There was something a little scary about footy on the weekend and it was that at most grounds across the region on Saturday you could not see the goal posts at either end. To know if a goal was scored spectators and even defenders would have to wait for the umpires call of all clear or the celebration of cheering from players.
5. With Round 18 the end of the home and away season, 16 junior teams will (or already have) finished the year. Hopefully on a high with a win but the most important is that the last game of the season is fun and we encourage all teams win, lose or draw to sing that team sing one last time, loud and proud for the year.
