Hawks soar, Roos and Cougars flex their muscles
Goondiwindi have kept their finals hopes alive in miserable conditions, after the Hawks scraped home against Highfields at Kratzke Oval.
At times it was difficult to see from end to end, as the infamous Toowoomba fog set across Kratzke Oval. In a must win game for Goondiwindi, the came away with the all-important 'W' and set up an intriguing final round of the Allied Pickford’s home and away season.
The quarter time scores reflected a soccer game with Goondiwindi leading 0.3 (3) to 0.1 (1), as both sides struggled in the inclement conditions.
Both sides were able to impact the scoreboard, with a major each but it was the Hawks inaccuracy in front of the goals which seem to be their biggest demon. Goondiwindi could of put the game within doubt but their 1.7 for the quarter kept the Lions in the contest at the long break.
Goals were hard to come by again but it was the Hawks who were able to boot 2 majors to the Lions 1, with Goondiwindi extending their halftime lead of 9-points to 17-points at the final change.
The Hawks were able to somewhat, power away in the final term and record an ugly but important 5.19 (49) to 3.5 (23) victory.
In the weekends other fixtures, Coolaroo and University flexed their muscles over Lockyer Valley and Toowoomba respectively. Adam Green kicked 9 in the Roo's 154-point win over the Demons, while the Tigers were impressive early but weren't able to keep up with the Cougars. University finished 71-point winners at Rockville Oval.

With one round to play in the Allied Pickfords Division 1 competition, final ladder positions won't be decided until after next weekend's fixtures with all club's eyes on the competition defining match between Warwick and South Toowoomba.
