The Tigers sent a freshly prepared Bulldog pelt to the tannery, which will look great in front of the trophy fireplace, nicely setting off the mounted Hawks head above. In three weeks the mighty Tigers have beaten both the ladder leaders and in doing so announcing their arrival as a serious contender for Grand Final spoils. Of course they need to topple to Roosters first, which is the one team that stood in the way of a perfect last round for the Districts boys.
Western Districts lead all day, actually scooting clear to lead by 44 points at three quarter time, then were held goal less as the Bulldogs lauched their much expected charge in the last quarter. The gap was just too much to bridge, as the final margin of 23 points heralding a richly deserved win for the Tigers. Rhys Bawden accross half back dominated, Kade Gill in the ruck, Jordan Richards, Scotty Feltus, Jarrad Tomney all prominent for the victors. Central Eyre have some injury concerns, and not a great time to be dealing with that. Jared Sampson again in the middle leading the best, Hayden Heath returning to the side, Tim Polkinghorne having a great tussle in the ruck, Jordan Stutley and the ever reliable Jake Bruce.
Much relief for Centrals that next week will be rest, recouperation and regroup, watching their challengers battle it out. The Tigers look forward with a fair degree of confidence, but need to keep the concentration levels up.
The Hawks gave the Elliston boys due notice of the level that they will need to rise to, with an 132pt thumping at Piednippie. Not the warm up for a 1st semi final that the Roosters were looking for at all. The Hawks had winners all over as they just ran the Roosters ragged. Nick Schumann outstanding with six goals, Dillon Cabot with pace and precision, Cameron Montgomerie all over, young Jaxon Galliver improving every week, Joe Mc Innis, Dillon Montgomerie in the best. No surprises that Tom Rumbelow lead the way for Elliston, he is having a superb season, Andrew Mc Leod, Tom Haarsma, Ben Hurrell, add Adam Haarsma and the better players are having a very familiar feel.
The Bombers end their season on a high, kicking away from a determined young Wudinna United side in the last quarter of a match that was closely contested up until that point. A good end to a season that will probably be looked back on with some disappointment at Wirrulla, given that at their best, the Bombers are formidable, but just couldnt get their good teams on the park enough. Simon Webb with five goals lead the way, having a great last half of the season, Jason Henderson, Vinnie Blumson, Mark Binder and Shane Pittaway for the winners. Captain Jarden Stoetzer injured his hamstring in the match, and played no further part. The young Magpies continue to improve, but it was their elder statesmen who lead the best, Henry Zwar is a star, Tommy DuBois, Eugene Wauchope, Brayden Chambers and Darryl Marshall at the last line of defense.
Both of these sides wont participate in the finals, but have shown some good glimpses throughout the year.
The reserves saw a surprise win to the Tigers over Central Eyre, really spoiling the Bulldogs day. The Tigers havent reached the finals but go out celebrating their best game for the year. Wirrulla justified their number one ranking with an eight goal win against the Magpies, and West Coast Hawks won on a forfeit by Elliston.
In the colts Wudinna United and West Coast Hawks each had the 10 goal mercy rule effected as they finished the minor round with wins. Interesting match between Central Eyre and Western Districts saw the Bulldogs come away with a five goal win, but the game was close most of the day, ensuring that the same match up next week will be one to watch
