SUNS rise in battle of the West
It was the fourth instalment in the battle of the west, as the Dalby Swans (5th) travelled to Chinchilla to take on the tenth placed SUNS.
The previous three encounters between the western Downs based clubs have all resulted in the Swans flying up but it a massive upset, the SUNS ran out victorious and taken a massive step in their development.
It was a game that Swans were meant to fly in to collect the premiership points and fly home to prepare for the upcoming round 17 clash against Highfields.
However, Chinchilla had different plans and they made those intentions clear from the opening bounce. The young SUNS booted three goals to zero in the opening stanza and kept the Swans to just one goal for the game. That in itself is an impressive statistic, as the Dalby Under 12's average 6-7 goals a game.
The SUNS may remain on the bottom of the McDonald's Trophy ladder but have taken massive steps forward in their development.
It was wild celebrations when the final siren sounded with the SUNS recording a 5.7 (37) to 1.3 (9) victory. The victory was one that was labelled 'The SUNS future at its finest' on the club Facebook page.
Star female player Lara Paget kicked two majors, as did Carmelo Keating with Aidan Goddard-Smith for Chinchilla with Dalby's Tristian Parry the only goal-kicker for the Swans.
Make sure you keep a close eye on the SUNS, as darlingdowns.aflq.com.au see this as a changing of the guard in the west.
