The AFL Sydney Women’s Round 14 Rising Star nominee is Bianca North from Southern Power.
"At the Power, we have been blessed this year with 8 new girls that wanted to try their hand at our great sport. All but 1 didn't fit into the age criteria which was a shame, but I have been waiting for a stellar game from Bianca to put her in, and this last round she really stood out", her coach Matt Crowe said.
Bianca North was bought to the club via her friend Bronte Howell, and while initially she was a duck out of water, she picked up her skill after lots of hard work in the preseason, and the first few games. Bianca has had an outstanding first year, and with a squad of 30, she has certainly held her spot to play 12 of the 16 games in 2014 and kicked 7 goals including 1 on the weekend. Her best return was 3 Goals V Manly @ Manly, and has appeared in players player voting 5 out of her 12 games.
On the weekend we tasked her with taking the game on and running the ball and making sure we could get the ball into our forward line quickly, and she was able to get marks high up the ground, take on her opponent, and also get in the right spot for some free kicks. She also finished with 5 inside 50 marks for the day and for a small fwd is a great effort.
