Nominate your local Sports Dads in the Philips Community Sports Dad of the Year award.
For the past six years, the public has had the chance to vote for their favourite celebrity Sports Dad of the Year, with winners coming from a range of codes and from all over Australia.
After its inaugural launch last year local Australian sports dads are continuing to be recognised and given the chance to be crowned the Philips Community Sports Dad of the Year.
Whether it's a dad that coaches his local junior team, helps the local sports club with funding or support, or simply plays competitive sport on the weekend, now is the chance to highlight a father who’s an inspiration to your local sports club and community.
The public can help their nominated sports dad join some of the biggest names in Australian sport who have been crowned the celebrity Philips Sports Dad of the Year. Previous finalists in the competition have included AFL superstars Sam Mitchell and Nick Maxwell; NRL champions Cameron Smith and Paul Gallen; two-time Grand Slam tennis champion Lleyton Hewitt; ex Socceroo Mark Schwarzer and Mark 'Frosty' Winterbottom from the V8 Supercar fraternity.
To get involved, people simply need to go to sportsdads.com.au/community and explain in 100 words or less why they think their chosen sports dad should be crowned the Community Sports Dad of the Year.
The Community Sports Dad of the Year winner will be provided with a $5,000 Rebel Sports voucher to donate to his sporting club of choice for some new gear or sporting equipment. Last years winner was Tony Vecellio (OAM), a father of four and President of Randwick Botany Little Athletic Centre in NSW. During his 45 years at the centre, he has trained thousands of children and had the pleasure of seeing many of those children return with their own kids. "The trophy was reward in itself" said Tony "But the $5000 sports voucher was put to good use where we rewarded kids, committee members and coaches with gift vouchers who deserved it".
Also a fun video contest has been added this year where we are looking for 15 second video entries demonstrating a father’s best sporting skill or trick with the best videos judged equally on originality, creativity, theme and overall quality.
Nominations and video contest entries are now open, so don’t forget to log on to sportsdads.com.au/community
. Nominations and entries end on Sunday August 24, and the winner will be announced before Father’s Day, Sunday September 7. See the website for full terms and conditions.
