Warwick have finished off their 2014 season with a hard fought 8.6 (54) to 4.6 (30) victory over the finals bound Coolaroo.
The Reddies came into this game with one goal and that goal was to win for star player Jasmyn Carter who tragically passed away last week. Redback's coach Mitchell Quaife that this win was the one the team and the club wanted most.
"This was the one win that we wanted," Quaife said.
"All the girls were ecstatic with their performances and the win.
"I think Jasmyn would have been proud (of) our achievements," Coach Quaife told darlingdowns.aflq.com.au
Warwick led from start to finish, saving their best and most ultimate team performance for last for the masses of Reddies faithful. Coolaroo were able to get within 6-points at the last change but the Redback's weren't about to let the Roo's back into the game.
The Redback's kicked three unanswered goals in the final quarter to record just their second win of the season. Even though the Reddies finished in sixth and won't play finals, coach Quaife was impressed and satisfied with the sides development, along with the support shown.
"I couldn’t believe the numbers that came down to watch. It was a touching experience, and will be a day that will not be forgotten."
Cassie Cullen led the way for the Redback's, the midfield ran hard all day and was able to slip forward and kick two goals. Cullen was well supported by Kristie-Anne Hill and Vicki Kirkland.
Suzanne Hardwick was judged the best navy Roo by her coaching staff with Louise Murray also impressive for the Roo's in the loss.
Meanwhile South Toowoomba regained top spot on the Blackchrome Cup ladder with an emphatic win over Goondiwindi at Riddles Oval. A 9-goal opening term put the result within doubt at the first break but to the Hawks credit they kept their opponents to just 14-goals for the remainder of the game.
Isabelle Baldock and Rebecca McInnes combined for 10-goals, as the reigning premiers finished 23.16 (154) to 2.1 (13) victors on Saturday afternoon.
Hawk's fullback Beth McLaughlin was superb at full-back and kept her opponent goal-less. Young-gun Chloe MacDonald was superb for South Toowoomba was judged as best on ground for the winners.
