Wildcard nomination number two for the Mooroopna Golf Club Rising Star Award is Tatura’s Matthew RYAN.
The 18-year-old Kyabram High School student is a remarkable story of adversity and recovery.
Matthew spent 2012 on the sidelines recovering from a knee reconstruction, which extended into last season for the first six games. After that Matt became the focal point for the Kyabram Thirds attack which resulted in him winning the league goal kicking with a tally of 40 by the end of the home and away series and 58 for the season including a premiership.
The Bomber Thirds were coached by Kyabram champion goal kicker, Paul NEWMAN, who despite injury himself kicked 55 goals for the home and away series. Matt went to Tatura this season with his 20-year-old brother Brad because they wanted a change and he wanted the opportunity to play with Brad.
Matt and Brad who are the sons of former Kyabram player, Brendan RYAN, and his wife Andrea from Lancaster, are an integral part of the Bulldogs team with both playing in the backline after Matt was tried up forward early in the season.
The RYAN boys played all their junior football with St Augustine’s Junior Football Club and the Kyabram College Junior Football Club.
