Hello Footy Heads, after a nice weekend off we are back and coming into the final quarter of the 2014 AFL Ontario Home & Away Season.
How did your side fare during the premiership quarter of the season? Did you get enough wins on the board to lock in a place in September? Or are you looking to scrape your way in over the last couple weeks? There are a few spots up for grabs in both competitions, who will be able to get over the line is yet to be seen!
Rebels v Wildcats
Is this a David v Goliath type clash? Top v Bottom? The Wildcats gave the Rebels are run for their money in the first half early on in the season and with the Rebels sitting pretty on top and having their annual "Rebels Day" could they become a bit complacent after the break? Hard to say at the moment but unlike the result of David v Goliath, I think its safe to say the Rebels will take this one. I doubt it will be a big margin. I also hear that Prendergast and King are still both out for another week or possibly two?
Phantom Prediction - Rebels by 34 points
Demons v Gargoyles
How will the Gargoyles look without their coach and leader Robbo in August to keep them in line? Will the likes of Kerm and Millsy hold the fort? They're going to need to as the Demons can be dangerous with the slightest sniff. Problem for them is that they're missing Casey who seems to be their key to success so despite the Gargs being average on the road in Toronto, I think they will get the job done this week. Will be interesting to see how both sides go for numbers with some key guys missing.
Phantom Prediction - Gargoyles 13 points
Eagles v Blues
Which Blues team shows up is probably going to determine this game. We saw on Rogers a few weeks ago that without the likes of Doc, Willsy and Shorty they are not all that great. Now they have lost Snorkel, Armstrong, Shallow and I believe one more? Anyway, it leaves some holes in their defence which the Eagles could capitalise on.
I thought the Eagles may have had more guys go to Australia but believe the only one is Kennedy so besides lacking depth in the Australian pools, the Eagles are in with a shot in this game. A win will see them back in contention for September!
Phantom Prediction - Blues by 18 points
Hawks v Roos
3 games to go, 1 game behind the Swans who have lost three of their "Canadian" stars, the Hawks need to win all 3 games in order to have a chance at securing a Top 2 finish before the finals. Dullard was back last week, Killa this week and the Hawks will be looking to regain form coming into September with their gun players back in the line up.
I am told that Rory Lake is officially gone from the Roos squad meaning their low numbers just got lower. Given this time of year is generally low in numbers as we all head to the cottage, this will probably be played at less than 18 per side.
Phantom Prediction - Hawks by 25 points
Swans v Dingos
The Dingos make the trip up the 401 to take on the Swans and if I know the Dingos, they will have a big crew going. They will obviously be missing Big Wade but if by some chance Evans makes the trip are a big shot at taking down the Swans. As previously mentioned, the Swans will be missing Kozlowski, Shaughnessy and Strom who are 3 key players in their side. The likes of Stafford and Powell will still be there and probably Roffey too so they should still be the favourites, but the Dingos have been known to take some scalps this year.
Phantom Prediction - Swans by 28 points
Womens
Demons v Swans
Very tough game to pick as I am not sure how the Swans will go without the likes of Dickinson, Constanza and the Sisters Legault in this game while the Demons will likely be missing Ennor and Valaitis. Numbers could be low, especially with the women's national team apparently sending two sides to IC14. Really unsure who to choose so will toss a coin.
Phantom Prediction - Demons by a goal
Wildcats v Blues
The women's games in the next 3 weeks are going to be very difficult to pick considering all the teams will be missing their best players and possibly more. Blues will be missing Nicholls, Bodashefsky and ? While the Cats will be missing Fluit, Kwan, Comolli and possibly more. This is really anyones game but considering its in Hamilton I think they will take it and snap the Blues win streak.
Phantom Prediction - Wildcats by 10 points
Well Footy Heads, that is it for #AFLOrd10, looks to be a great weekend for it! I am off to a cottage this week so will miss the games to please do tweet those results!
