University delivers AFLDD finals blow
SOUTH Toowoomba's AFL Darling Downs finals hopes have taken a hit after University romped to a 17.12 (114) to 4.7 (31) victory at Rockville Park on Saturday.
Just two goals was the difference in the opening term before a blistering 8.3 to 0.1 second quarter saw the Cougars up by 61 points at halftime.
The Bombers hit back with a 2.3 to 0.1 third term but it wasn't enough to get them back in the contest.
Uni kept Souths scoreless in the final quarter while booting another five goals to move into outright third.
Souths remain in the top four but they could still be knocked out as they face back-to-back road trips against Goondiwindi (fifth) and Warwick (first), who both had byes at the weekend.
Meanwhile, Coolaroo is still in the hunt for the minor premiership after thrashing the Toowoomba Tigers 20.20 (140) to 4.4 (28) at Pittsworth.
Adam Green and Michael Langton kicked four goals apiece as the defending premiers closed the gap at the top of the ladder to just two points which is less than one win.
Finally, an incredible 16-goal haul from Nathan Rooney helped Highfields claim an emphatic 33.24 (222) to 2.2 (14) victory over Lockyer Valley at Kratzke Oval.
