On 2 August against Holroyd Parramatta, St George Dragon’s legend Jon Shineberg will play his 250th senior game for the club placing him in 10th position in the club’s 86 year history for the most number of senior games played.
Jon joined the Dragons in season 1997and has played with us for 14 seasons. Of the 250 senior club games 167 were in first grade and 83 are in Ressies with an additional 44 in Under 18’s.
Jon has played in 6 Grand Finals, being an influential member of the Dragon’s side that won Division 2 in 2012. The others were in Under 18’s in 1999, Ressies in 2001 and 2002 and First Grade in 2004 and 2007.
Jon has been the club’s leading goalkicker in all grades, in 1998 and 1999 in Under 18’s, in 2002 and 2012 in Ressies and in 2009 in First Grade. In 1999 he was the leading goalkicker in the Sydney Under 18 competition and in 2012 he lead Division 2 in goalkicking.
Jon has also been on the committee for a number of years as the Secretary. He has been a major organiser of the Presentation Nights, the footie trips and other social occasions many of which he also hosted.
In addition for many seasons he would begin home matches marking the field, buying food and drink for the canteen and for functions and anything else that was needed.
Occasionally he played football!
Jon has won a combination of the Bob McConnell Best Playing Clubman and the Ron Kemp Best Clubman on at least 5 occasions.
