Norwood Flames (61) lost to Woodville Warriors (94)
Quiet achievers,the Norwood Flames, had snuck up to number one on the ladder and held it for 3 weeks when they entered the game home court favorites at MARS on Saturday. However the Warriors had held the top spot 7 times throughout the season and were on a mission to assert themselves as the most dominant team in the competition for 2014.
It was a powerfull first period and scores were level on 17 a piece at the first break. Neither team gave an inch in the second quarter as they traded shots, it was only the benefit of the clock that allowed the Warriors a 1 point lead at half time.
Woodvilles' defence turbo charged in the second half, they dominated on the boards and caused major headaches for the Flame's shooters, forcing them to shoot predominantly in the three zone. However they didn't find much joy downtown, the Flame scored just 10 points in the 3rd quarter and another 10 for the 4th. Meanwhile the stars aligned for the Warriors, trademark triples form Darren Ng, a hot streak from Cameron Wilson and sheer tenacity from import Alexander Starling combined to deliver a convincing 33 point victory for the visitors.
Woodvilles' Alexander Starling led the game in both scoring (26 points) and rebounds (11). Fellow Warrior Cameron Wilson also made a big impact with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Ian O'Boyle stood out for the Flames with 17 points.
