Hi Footy Heads, what an interesting round of AFLO football that Round 9 turned out to be.
Fair to say there was quite a bit of controversy and the Phantom twitter account heard all about it. To match or not to match, that seems to be the question on minds across the province and the moment.
Safe to say this controversial round will be talked about for a few more weeks yet, possibly even months! Here is my review of #AFLOrd9
Rebels 10.12.72 def Dingos 4.7.31
The ladder leading Rebels continued their strong run this year moving to 9-0 with a win over the Dingos. Both sides appear to have been missing a number of players in a game that was fairly even until about 3 quarter time when the Rebels kicked 4.4 to the the Dingos nothing in the final term.
The Rebels were missing Bodnar, Prendergast and King but still had the strong presence of Murdoch who kicked 4 and Karavias who finished with 3.
The Dingos have lost Big Wade for the season to an ankle injury and missed Evans and Dave Wells. Humphries was their best with 2 goals supported well by Aitken and the skipper McKay.
Phantom starting the round with a correct pick - 1/1
Blues 16.10.106 def Demons 4.4.28
An interesting game at Humber South the scores online are apparently incorrect as I have been forwarded some info by the AFL Ontario Executive which suggests that during the 4th quarter, the Blues stopped the game and called a count. The Demons were found to have 19 players on the field, which meant they lost their full score up to that point in time. Maybe the Blues should have matched them at 19's?
The Demons best were Casey, Doggett and Quigley - Casey kicked 5 although that will surely also need to be adjusted as the team only ended with 4 goals, all kicked in the last quarter.
The Blues goal kickers do not show online but Shorty was back kicking 6 goals for the Blues while Whittington was amongst their best with Snorkel. The loss of approx 40 points will surely help the Blues percentage and possibly take them to 6th place above the Dingos when corrected online.
Phantom predictions - 2/2
Gargoyles 15.11.101 def Wildcats 9.8.62
The Wildcats traveled to Guelph to take on the Gargoyles but were unfortunately a little bit short. I am told the Gargoyles matched the Wildcats at 16's but strangely the Cats only have 15 players listed online. Lowry, Sherwood and McDowall had 2 goals each while Chucky dusted off the cobwebs in yet another come back kicking a goal.
The Gargoyles got a much needed win on the board and have given themselves a much needed buffer as we go into the final quarter of the home and away season after the break. They were missing Robbo and Dyer but O'Regan stepped up with 4 goals while Kerm and Maurer had 3 each.
Phantom now 3/3 - only just missed the margin!
Swans def Roos by forfeit
The most controversial of all the games, the Roos did not make the trip to Ottawa so the Swans take the 4 points.
Phantom 4/4 in #AFLOrd9
Hawks 14.14.94 def Eagles 5.5.35
Yet another game played with low numbers, the Hawks had 16 and the Eagles 17 as they played a matched game of 16 a side on Sunday morning at Humber South. The Hawks saw the return of Dullard to the line up along with Royle and no doubt Shutts was main beneficiary of some quality delivery. He kicked 6 goals while Cragg kicked 4 and the Hawks steamrolled the Eagles by 10 goals.
The Eagles continue to fight but the old legs are running out of steam. Speaking of old legs, Marsh and Lusar kicked 2 each while Falcioni extended his lead on the league goal kicking contest by a goal.
Phantom with a perfect round! 5/5 in Division 1
2XU Player of the Round
This weeks 2XU Division 1 Player of the Round is Matthew O'Regan of the Grand River Gargoyles. He led from the front with 4 goals against the Wildcats at home on Saturday, bringing his total goals for the season for 17 goals. Congratulations Matthew

Swans def Roos by forfeit
Seems like I am repeating myself but the Roos did not make the trip to Ottawa so the Swans take the 4 points. Pretty unfortunate for the ladies from Ottawa as this is the second time this year that a side has not made the journey to the Nation's Capital
Phantom 1/1
Blues 6.3.39 def Demons 4.4.28
After being win-less more than a season, the Blues have now won 3 games in a row with a great win over the Demons who seem to really be struggling at the moment. The Blues team sheet looks a little short considering they had an army of players the week before and players such as Nicholls, Bodashefsky, Tong, Kelly-Witt and Grant are not on there.
Phantom 2/2 in Women's Division
Well there you have it Footy Heads! The Phantom finally scores a perfect round of picks in both the Division 1 and Women's! It has been a long time coming. I guess that means I get a week off! See you in a week for the preview #AFLOrd10.
