SUNS rise, Saints march and Swans Fly
The South Burnett Saints are now two points clear on the top of the AFL Darling Downs Division 2 table after taming the Cougars by 33-points on Saturday afternoon.
The Saints got off to a strong start in the first quarter, notching up five goals to University’s two. The Cougars fought back before half-time but not enough to cut into the Saints’ lead.
South Burnett led at every change and romped away in the last quarter to finish 13.13 (91) to 8.10 (58).
Adam Bowater led the way with the boot, spearing home six goals. While brothers Ty and Keiran Snow ran-a-muck in the midfield, with Ash Harley and Brendon McDonald were judged the Cougars best.
In the weekend's other matches Dalby recorded a strong 16.10 (106) to 6.5 (41) victory over reigning Premiers to end the Roo's hopes of back to back division 2 flags. It was a strong team performance by the Swans that was set up on the back of a six goal to two first quarter.
Young-gun Brock Dignan was named the Swans best, with Coolaroo's Cameron Elridge judged best on by the Roo's coaching staff.
Chinchilla have kept a slender gap between themselves (4th) and the fifth placed Bombers and Swans in sixth.
The SUNS retained 4th position on the ladder and their dreams of a debut finals appearance with an impressive 34.23 (227) to 1.0 (6) win over Warwick at the Chinchilla Showgrounds. This round 15 victory was the SUNS biggest win in their short history and gave them an all important 27% boost on their season percentage.
Kristian Muir had a field day in front of the big sticks, kicking a career best 17-goals in his best on ground performance. Mitchell Quaife was named the best for the Redback's.
