Finals, National Honours, Dream team and votes
1. Former Coolaroo player Brendan Shelton became only the third Darling Downs junior to be named as an All-Australian. Shelton joined the likes of Dan Farr (u15 School-Boys) and Shaleise Law (U18 Youth Girls) to have national honours on their playing CV's.
2. Fairest and Best count nights aren't too far away, how close will the coaches best be to the umpires best. If they are similar then each age division count should be very close. Up to eight players have been very consistent in the Under 12 McDonald's Trophy, while 9 players are very close in the McDonald's Shield under 14 competition. With the Under 16 McDonald's Cup also another tight race, it looks like the junior presentation evening, will be very interesting.
3. In round 14 junior action, we didn't see as many goals kicked as per previous weeks but one stand out was Lockyer Valley Under 16 player Jacob Schroen who booted 8 goals to help his team to a handy victory. His bag of 8 saw him sky rocket up the goal-kicking leader board to 6th overall.
4. With finals fast approaching, all eyes suddenly lock onto the top 4 and it looks like it may be the year of a country club. More than half of the McDonald's junior competitions are made up of sides outside of the Toowoomba area, which means only one thing, footy is on the rise right across the region.
5. If we had dream team or super coach points for the McDonald's junior competitions, one player who would be chosen first would be Jackson Montgomery. The young Bomber has dominated the Under 12's competition and not only does he accumulate possessions, he pushes forward to kick goals and also takes impressive defensive intercepting marks. All key ingredients in a key dream-team player.
