GVFL FIXTURE
Yes it is s a fixture, not a draw. A draw for a GVFL Season can be compiled in a few minutes from programs available in a computer, obviously with a few adjustments for clubs needs.
For the benefit of those few club administrators who in their recent submissions to the League’s appointed consultant Chris HAZELMAN stated that the GVFL should have a draw instead of a fixture let me point out what some club officials and GVFL players and supporters are not familiar with. This is the method which was adopted by the GVFL Delegates at a properly constituted meeting some three years ago and is in vogue until such time as a motion is moved to have the format rescinded and replaced with a straight out draw. Following is the relevant Rule :-
RULE 57. REGULATIONS AND BY-LAWS-GVFL SEASON FIXTURE
In he first 3 rounds and the last 3 rounds of the GVFL season the following shall apply:
Mansfield, Seymour, Euroa and Benalla will play each other twice every year (at the start and the finish); Echuca, Kyabram, Rochester and Tatura will play each other twice every year (at the start and the finish) and Mooroopna, Shepparton Swans, Shepparton and Shepparton United will play each other twice every year (at the start and the finish)
2015 GOTAFE GVFL FIXTURE
After spending a huge amount of time and making many adjustments to accede to some clubs needs, a 2015 fixture has been formulated and submitted to the League by former Chairman and long serving Board Member Ian FITZSIMMONS, which after considerable perusal seemed to accommodate the needs required and the fixture looked set to be circularized to all clubs for their approval or otherwise; however, it has since come to our notice that the AFL Grand Final in 2015 will be played on Saturday October 3, 2015, which traditionally means that the GVFL Grand Final will be played on Sunday 4, 2015.
With the 2015 season due to commence on Easter Weekend Friday /Saturday April 3/4 to enable some clubs to take advantage of the influx of visitors at some venues it means that the 18 scheduled rounds will stretch over 23 weeks. With this in mind it will be necessary for Ian FITZSIMMONS to determine which clubs want to play on Easter Weekend and those who would rather have Easter off, therefore having a situation where bye matches played on April 3 & 4 and again the following weekend April 11, would constitute round 1. With this scenario in mind by the time football patrons read this article GVFL Affiliated clubs will be made aware of the 2015 situation and may come up with other solutions rather than having clubs miss out on the Easter Revenue. Maybe another split round in the last six rounds of the season.
FINALS VENUES 2014
Interesting to note that all Goulburn Murray Region League’s have announced their finals venues and matches to be played at those venues regardless of which football or netball teams might be playing. The Goulburn Valley League have opted to delay such decisions until the Sunday morning following the last home & away game on Saturday August 30, obviously to try to alleviate the problems which arose last year, and with a view to allowing more co-ordination between the Football & Netball League’s. Who knows it might become clearer before that date; however here is something to think about:
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 6, Qualifying Final Team 1 v Team 2 at Mansfield Recreation Reserve. Could be Seniors - Benalla v Kyabram or Shepparton Swans
Reserves- Euroa v Shepparton Swans
Thirds- Euroa v Benalla
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 6, First Elimination Final Team 3 v Team 6 at Tatura Park
Could be Seniors- Kyabram or Shepp Swans v Rochester, United, Mooroopna or Euroa
SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 7, Second Elimination Final Team 4 v Team 5 at Victoria Park, Echuca
Could be Seniors- Tatura v Rochester, United, Mooroopna or Euroa
