Goondiwindi have secured a maiden finals appearance after defeating an injury-ravaged Warwick outfit 21.14 (140) to 2.1 (13) at Riddles Oval.
The return of star Hawkette, Jessica Bell bolstered the green and golds midfield and this is where the Hawks did the early damage. With a fairly even ruck contest, it was the Goondiwindi midfielders who were able to take control of the football and make the most of their inside 50's.
Goondiwindi dominated the opening half, with an impressive 13-goals, 7 of them in the second half.
Warwick was able to infiltrate the Hawks defensive lines early in the third quarter, through Beth McLaughlin but the damage was already done.
However Warwick can take positives out of this clash, as they repelled a number of the Hawks attacking raids and were able to more the football forward more consistently but unfortunately lacked a key forward to reward the hard work.
Hawks coach Craig Naismith was pleased with the victory and great for the girls hard work to pay off.
"We worked hard during the week on some of our skills and they showed on the field and we attacked the footy better," Naismith said.
"It was a great team effort and all of the Hawkettes really contributed to this win."
Coach Naismith was over the moon to secure a finals birth, on the clubs biggest day.
"It was great to have the sideline support of the Hawks Old Boys and it was great to secure a spot in our first ever finals appearance."
Goondiwindi key forward Dianne Naismith moved to 8th on the AFLDD Women's goal-kicking leader board after bagging 5-goals for the game, with returning Hawk Jessica Bell chipping with 4 of her own.
The Hawks will now enjoy a week off before they face the reigning premiers South Toowoomba at Riddles Oval, with Warwick scheduled to play Dalby in round 16 at home.
