If the Goondiwindi Hawks are to play finals in just their first season in the AFL Darling Downs women's competition, then they have one task.
Beat Warwick at home.
With the Hawkettes clear of Lockyer Valley by 2-points in the top 4 and with a game against South Toowoomba to come, this is a must win match if they are to look after their own fate. With two wins out of their last four matches and those wins coming against Coolaroo (3rd) and Lockyer Valley (5th), they should easily push aside Warwick (6th) and glide into finals.
However, it won't be an easy task as the Reddies are up and about.
The Redback's, Cullen sisters and Vicki Kirkland are leading a late season revival of one of the Women's competition's founding teams and will be eager to halt the Hawks at Riddles. The Reddies will be looking to fill the void of key defender Delma Phyland, who is unable to play due to injury.
Warwick does have the talent to fill the void but to beat Goondiwindi they will need the entire playing group to contribute for a Reddies victory.
Goondiwindi coach Craig Naismith said that his side won't take the game lightly but will look to their consistent stars to get the four points.
"Mandy Martin, Amy Hague, Zoe Naismith and Jess Bell will all be pivotal in the outcome", Naismith told darlingdowns.aflq.com.au
"We will stick to our footy and play the way we want to", Naismith added.
First bounce will be at 1:00pm at Riddles Oval as Goondiwindi host Warwick. In the weekends other Blackchrome Cup fixture Coolaroo will travel to Dalby to take on the Swans in a re-scheduled match from round 1 washed out fixtures.
It will be an important game for both sides, as final positions inside the top 4 are yet to be finalised and both sides will be pushing for a top 2 finish come the end of the season, aiming for the all-important second chance.
Dalby versus Coolaroo is scheduled to start at 4:30pm, Dalby Owen Street Oval. Both AFLDD Women's games are on Saturday 26th July.
