At half time at Ky on Sunday the Bombers were 12.7 (79) to Shepparton United's 3.3 (21) - the Bombers then kicked another 11 goals 5 to the Demons 5 goals 4 in the second half - final score Kyabram 23.12 (150) to Shepparton United 8.7 (55) - a 95 point victory to the reigning Premiers. Kyabram were very, very good - no real outstanding performance by any one player, simply an outstanding team performance. This week's clash with the undefeated Saints from Benalla over at Ky promises to be a real beautie despite the Bombers only having a 6 day break. Paul NEWMAN was a bit off tap through fitness and a good opponent in Steve McINTYRE but he still managed to kick 4 goals 3 behinds - he and the constant rush of the footy going into the Ky forward line will cause Luke MORGAN and the Benalla boys a few headaches.
Benalla also had a big win at home v the Murray Bombers from Echuca - they were up by 55 points at half time and increased that to win by 74 points by the final siren. Dirty Dave and his Bombers will also have a few concerns with the brilliant form of Josh MELLINGTON who kicked 10 on Saturday as well as giving off another couple to team-mates. Nick WARNOCK kicked 4. Great news for Echuca and the GVFL that Simon BUCKLEY has signed on for another season.
Rochy at home walloped the Magpies by 83 points - 22.11 (143) to Euroa 9.6 (60) - power forward Grant WEEKS kicked 9 to take him to a 9 goal lead over Saad SAAD from Seynour who only slotted one goal against Shepparton at Deakin. Dylan CUTTRISS kicked 5. Coach of the Magpies Nathan GILLILAND was again named his side's best player.
Mooroopna may count themselves a bit lucky to get the four points over Mansfield at the Mooroopna Recreation Reserve. Sure; the Cats were up by 40 points at 3/4 time but the Eagles probably kicked themselves out of the win by kicking 4 goals 7 points in the last quarter compared to Mooroopna 1 goal 2. Final score :- Mooroopna 12.12 (84) to Mansfield 9.13 (67) - a 17 point win to the Cats. Daniel LEWIS kicked 5 for the Cats, Ben FAGAN kicked 4 for the Eagles.
At Deakin Reserve, the Shepparton Bears did come from behind at 3/4 time to defeat Seymour by 9 points - 14.8 (92) to the Lions 12.11 (83). This is a terrific effort by Shepp who were down by 16 points at the last break. Shepp kicked 5 goals 3 behinds to the Lions 1 goal 2 in that last quarter. A huge wrap has been afforded to the Bears defender Sam BOWMAKER who kept Saad SAAD to just one goal that he kicked early in the first quarter. Perhaps Saad was running on empty but we all know this champion goal-kicker can kick bags at any time of the year. Big wraps have also been placed on Shepp's ruckman Ash HOLLAND. Returnee former Shepp Under 18 Premiership players Tommy THORSEN kicked 4 and his china plate Will PATONE kicked 2.
Another close game was over at Tatura Park where the home side the Bulldogs were level with the Shepparton Swans at 3/4 time with both teams having 6.8 on the board. The Swans kicked 3 goals 4 behinds in the last quarter while the Bulldogs only managed 1 goal 1 behind - in fact the Bullies only kicked 1 goal 5 behinds in the second half whereas the Swans kicked 4 goals 8 behinds in the second half. Jamason DANIELS kicked 3 goals for the Swans from running into the forward 50 and boom recruit from Tassie for the Bulldogs Sonny WHITING kicked 3. Brodie CHILDS was named the Swans best player along with skipper Jesse FINNEN while James WALL played a very serviceable game for the Dogs as did Buffa RYAN across half back With Daniel LOVICK and Andrew RIORDAN down back for the Swans we can really look forward to a fantastic final 6 weeks and then the finals.
