Demons Ground Hawks
Lockyer Valley have broken their 6-game losing streak in the AFLDD Women's Blackchrome Cup and have kept their finals hopes alive with a strong 26-point victory over Goondiwindi.
Scores were level at quarter-time with neither side having the ability to break the game open.
The Demons broke the shackles in the second term, as the ladies from the Lockyer Valley booted three majors to none for the quarter. Goondiwindi only booting two behinds in the Demons dominated stanza.
It was much the same in the third quarter with the Hawks only having the ability to record two behinds again as the Demons stretched their half-time lead 17-points out to 29, at the final change.
Goondiwindi kicked the first goal of the final quarter but the damage was already done, as Tiffany Harman booted her second for the game and stamped out any chance of a Hawks comeback.
The 26-point win was made even more impressive as the result showed how quickly fortunes can change in just four-weeks in Australian Rules. Lockyer Valley were completely out played by the Hawks back in June, going down by 99-points but it was this Round 14 match proved that the Demons still have plenty to offer in season 2014.
Lockyer Valley 7.4 (46) defeated 2.8 (20) Goondiwindi.
This win sees the Demons just shy of the AFLDDW top 4 and Goondiwindi by 2-points.
The two top teams in the Blackchrome Cup, South Toowoomba and Dalby powered to impressive victories in their Saturday afternoon matches over Coolaroo and Warwick respectively.
Dalby's Alison Gaur stormed into first place on the competitions goal-kicking leader board after her impressive bag of 10-majors, saw the Swans comfortable winners over Warwick. Meanwhile an all-round team performance by South Toowoomba has seen the reigning premiers take their unbeaten streak to 18 straight victories across two seasons of the AFL Darling Downs Women's competition.
