1. University recorded their 12th straight victory in the McDonald's Trophy Under 12's competition and no body looks like stopping them. With only one game against a top 4 opponent left in their run home, the Cougars are looking to go the season with a unblemished record.
2. Jack Fletcher looks set to be the first junior player on the Darling Downs to bring up 50-goals for the season in 2014. Fletcher currently sits on a season tally of 44 with his closest rivals within striking distance of him. Callum Banim (University U12's) sits on 41 and Tom Clark (Highfields U16's) on 39, the Under 16 McDonald's Cup leading goal-scorer may just become a little goal hungry in the next couple of weeks. The AFLDD Juniors record of 123 in a season by former Cougar junior Aidan Anderson looks safe for now.
3. An amazing 12-months and alot of hard work has paid off. Go back 12months ago and the Toowoomba Tigers (Stingers back then) were sitting in 6th with a 4 - 5 record after 12 rounds of footy but now after 12 rounds the Tigers sit on top of the McDonald's Shield ladder with an 8 - 1 record. The young Tiger cubs are about to pounce on their first finals appearance since 2009 and will go into the Under 14 McDonald's Shield finals as one of the premiership favourites.
4. It can be a long season from Round 1 to 18 and to continue to perform at a consistent level is something only the elite often can do. But three juniors from across the region have been super consistent for their respective sides. Aiden Cohen-Campbell (U16 Lockyer Valley), Thomas Dearnaley (U14 Coolaroo) and Jackson Montgomery (U12 South Toowoomba) have featured more times in their sides best players than any other player across the junior competitions. Prepare your ears for the trio's family names as you shall be hearing them regularly on Junior vote count night.
5. Three junior clubs have exceeded the magical 100 mark, with Coolaroo, Toowoomba and University all boasting junior player numbers over one hundred in total. Highfields aren't too far off from joining the big three. Toowoomba Tigers rank number one across the competition with a massive 42.5% increase in growth in just this season.
