Neumann formally recognised by Darling Downs League
AFLQ Darling Downs Development Coordinator Jeff Neumann was today formally recognised by the Darling Downs league for his tireless work in promoting and developing the Women’s game on the Downs with the Women’s BOG (best on ground) Grand Final award to be named after him.
At just 24, Neumann already boasts an impressive resume especially where women’s football is concerned. This year alone Jeff has been given the opportunity to work in the inner sanctum of the AFL as an assistant coach for the Western Bulldogs women’s team. Add to that working alongside former Melbourne Demons ruckman Jeff White as the Queensland open women’s team beat Tasmania back in June.
You could say that 2014 has been an amazing year for Jeff in his personal development as a women’s coach but highlighting his modest character Neumann rates the expansion and continual development of the women’s game locally as his season highlight. “It’s great to see that the women’s game is capturing the attention of the entire community hence the expansion of the game across the Downs”, said Neumann. “Our local competition has doubled in size in just 2 years and I expect to see more clubs taking on women’s teams in 2015 which could make the Darling Downs women’s competition the largest in the state”.
Neumann has also played an integral part in the promotion and development of the women’s game at school and junior level. “Our women’s school numbers have also seen a dramatic rise this year”. The U16 DD team had more than 60 girls trialling back in March, this attendance level was higher than our boys representative teams this year”, Neumann stated.
Jeff displays a genuine passion for the women’s game and is certainly a deserving recipient of the naming of this award. Humble as always “I’m sure there are others more deserving but I’m extremely grateful to even be considered here” were Neumann’s first words when told about the naming of the award. The Darling Downs Women’s Grand Final will be decided on Sunday 14th September 2014 at Rockville Park.
