U/16
In the U/16s Ellinbank tall Sean Masterson was a stand out. He influenced events strongly all over the ground in his ruck role in all three matches. Lang Lang’s Brad Harding, Garfield’s Rhys Murphy and Poowong’s Josh Chiaravoli showed good ability to escape their opponents in and around the middle across in all games while behind the centre Garfield’s Lachlan Schreurs, Kooweerup’s Liam Hetherington and Nar Nar Goon’s Luke Dortmans often came to the rescue with many timely interceptions. Wingman Riley Rundell from Longwarry and Trent Armour from Nar Nar Goon along with Lang Lang’s Tom Dwyer and Kooweerup’s Nathan Voss all showed a sample of their promise over the day. Unfortunately after kicking three goals in the opening game Garfield ruck-forward Sam Whibley sustained a leg injury early in the second game and took no further part in the day and his strong marking and physical presence was missed in the later two matches.

U/18
While outplayed after half time by a very well drilled Gippsland team the U/18s s played purposely, showed good commitment in all three matches and held their nerve under pressure to record two heart stopping victories. Coming into the carnival with seven players missing from the side that played in the worksafe championships and three less rotations than the other leagues the boys were running on empty in the second half of their final game and did well to hold on for one-point victory. Buln Buln rover Tyson Bale was awarded the team’s best player medallion. His ball winning ability, work rate and tackling a feature of a wonderful day’s work. Nar Nar Goon’s Tyler Payroli was superb and backed his judgment well in defence and Lang Lang’s Dylan Wilson generated plenty of goal scoring opportunities. Neerim’s Sam Langford and Bunyip’s Sam McMillan shouldered the ruck duties with good effect and Kooweerup’ Andrew Proctor and the captain hit the packs hard and relished the wet conditions in the final game. Across half forward Neerim’s Mark Vassett presented well and Cora Lynn’s Michael Misso, Buln Buln’s Jack Nuttall and Bunyip’s Codey Manning showed polish on a number of occassions.
