Youngsters on show
The next generation of AFL Sydney talent will be on display at Mike Kenny Oval this week at the AFL Greater Sydney Juniors Representative Carnival.
Starting Wednesday, the carnival will feature over 350 participants from 15 teams across the three days- representing Western Sydney and Sydney Harbour regions in U17, 15 and 13 age groups.
More details can found here.
Level head on Mills
You could understand Callum Mills thinking ahead after a great week which saw the prodigious midfielder and 2015 top-draft prospect play a key role in wrapping up the Under 18 Division Two championship for NSW/ACT (read morehere). The youngster made the trip down to St George on Saturday acting as the team water carrier for the Premier Division side. If that speaks for itself, the young fella is going places.
North Dalton turns it on
It was a great day on and off the field at North Dalton Park to celebrate the Sydney Swans NEAFL side’s win at the ground over Ainslie. In front of one of the biggest crowds seen at the venue, Illawarra caused an boilover by defeating UTS in Division One before the Womens side recorded a dominant 40-point win over Manly. It shows support and talent in the area is still strong.
Snakes and ladders
You only have to look at the ladders to see there is hot competition for places in the finals series this year. In Premier Division, four sides can displace Sydney University after they suffered a three-goal loss to UNSW/ES. Division Two also looks interesting with Moorebank (sixth) knocking off one of the early form sides in Manly-Warringah (now fifth). Camden’s place is insecure after word has emerged that Josiah Ayling is possibly out for the season with an ankle injury.
Wollondilly making waves
Wollondilly look almost assured of making the finals in their first year since moving up from the South Coast competition. They currently sit second on the Division Four standings.
Love is in the air
One of our Community questions received plenty of support last weekend when we asked for man crushes within your footy club. Danny reckons there are some unlikely couples amongst with some of his favourites including the following; Matt Lemme and the flying Frenchman Yannick Milligan-Saville, Harry "send me an" Angel and Stephen "Sting" Wray, Adam Baker and Damon "Adonis" Collina, Taran Etto and Hamish "Sherman" Sherwood, Chris Yard and James Dunn, Levi Brain and David "Mirror" Stroud, and Thomas "T-Bone" Thurgaland and Gareth "Arrow" Benbow.
Most worrying was the number of self-crushes, with nominations including Blake Pearce, Thomas Zilm, and Mbimbi Daniel Mbimbi.
Rumour Mill in full swing
We have received a large swag of mail messages this week with the following possibly true. We will leave it to you to decide;
Jordan Pidgeon (Holroyd-Parramatta)was a no-show at training last Thursday night, rumours have it that he hit the bottle too hard on his first night out in the Cross on Wednesday and was suffering from a vicious hangover. He was also said to have copped a stray elbow from his girlfriend leading to a bloody nose #modellingcareerover.
Matt Round smoke bombed the Western Suburbs boys and even his love child, Vasili (Zeus) on Saturday night at Cargo bar.. However, after he left a group of girls close by were relieved after numerous failed requests to Matt to stop winking at them.
Jarryd Polley was said to following another team mates lead in regards to a certain female member of the public at the same venue to "prove that he was a kick behind the play off the field as well as on."
Meanwhile, Clint McGrath acted injured after a collision with courageous skipper, Brenton Mumme. The act continued into Saturday evening to get a free meal and spend time with his captain to ensure he is selected in the Premier Division side next week.
Danny can also rumour that there will a new form of entertainment on Phelan Medal night which will involve a number of AFL Sydney players. Watch this space!
