Back in 1989 we had 11 clubs making up the League. Benalla and Mansfield were yet to join - Tongala are now a strong club in the Murray Football League. At the half way mark of the 1989 season Shepp United were on top of the Senior ladder with 9 wins, a draw and 1 loss. Rochy were 2nd with 9 wins and 2 losses. Shepparton were on top of the Reserves ladder with 9 wins / 2 losses. Shepp were also top of the Under 18's ladder with 10 wins and one loss. In the Seniors Goal Kicking - Richard WARBURTON from Shepp United was leading the True Boot award with 49 goals, closely followed by Mick SOUTER from Tongala with 46. The other sharp shooters were Phillip "Flash" MURRAY from Mooroopna with 38, Anthony "Tank" McPHEE from Rochy with 32, Darren COMI from Seymour with 32, Andrew KNOWLES from Euroa with 29, Perry MEKA from Tatura with 28, Peter FULLER from Rochy with 26 and Steven KNIGHT also from Rochy also with 26.

Tatura's Full Forward Mimo LIA has son Vince playing for Wellington in the National Soccer League. Euroa's No. 1 Rover Gary Nipper HARVEY is the Magpie's Delegate to the GVFL and a regular on our Home Page with his selections with Foxy & J.R. Seymour's Half back flanker Gerrard O'SULLIVAN is now the Lions President following on from brother Matty. The Lions centreman Glen COLE is the father of young gun Jason who is making a name for himself with the Lions. Mettie SELMAN with the Swans has been a fantastic servant of his club since day One and still remains very active. And now look at the United team's forward pocket / change rover. Shaun HART - what an absolute champion! First rover for Mooroopna Gary COOPER, inaugral Hall of Fame inductee with Tank McPHEE a few weeks ago. Another champion! Laurie CASEY with Ky has been a GVFL Selector for many years and is still heavily involved with the Bombers.
