WARWICK has cemented its place at the top of the AFL Darling Downs ladder with a 17.14 (116) to 6.8 (44) victory over Highfields at Kratzke Oval on Saturday.
Highfields showed plenty of fight in a tough first quarter with Warwick just edging in front by five points.
But the class of the Redbacks shone through after the break as they kicked 5.3 to 1.1 for the second term, and kept the Lions goal-less in the third, to run away with it.
The return of Brendan Iles from injury was a huge boost for Warwick as the three-time Holman medallist booted six goals.
Iles had great support from Damien Morris who bagged five majors in a complete team performance.
Meanwhile, South Toowoomba, the only team to beat Warwick this season, was unstoppable in front of goal as it thrashed Lockyer Valley 35.15 (225) to 0.1 (1) at USQ on Friday night.
The Bombers had 12 individual goal-scorers in a dominant attacking display with Daniel Verrall (seven) and Rob Lunney (five) the standouts.
The big victory was enough for Souths to reclaim fourth place from Goondiwindi after the Hawks went down to University 18.19 (127) to 10.13 (73) at Reddies Oval on Saturday.
It was the second time in as many weeks the two sides have faced off at the Hawks' home ground.
However, the Cougars weren't going to be denied again and bounced back from last weekend's 11-point loss with a blistering 6.9 to 1.3 first quarter.
Goondiwindi lifted after the break but Uni again dominated in the second half to seal an impressive 54-point win.
