Fun for the family at Moorebank
We kick off this week’s Diatribe with a family-friendly subject. Rosedale is one of the best grounds in Sydney and it will play host to a Family Fun Day this Saturday. There will be a DJ, jumping castle, craft, half-time fun on the field, and my favourite, a reptile show at 2pm. A few of the Moorebank boys promise to be more slippery on the ground in the main game shortly afterwards. Check it out!
Experience gets it done
Danny loves defenders, especially from the old days where a tickle behind the ear involved a spoil rather than a feather duster. I was proud as punch to see the performance of two key defenders in St George’s upset win over the undefeated Manly-Warringah GIANTS. Michael "Macklemore" Milner in his 100th game held leading goalkicker, Brayden Fowler to one goal in a great duel. Fellow defender, veteran Rod Craig was named as the Dragons’ best in a performance that saw them rise in premiership betting.
Ask the Community
We got some interesting responses from our followers this week when asked about hidden talents and nicknames. We had scuba divers, yoga masters, naked Pete Murray covers, and mullet growing as skills, while nicknames ranged from Cinnamon and Sugar to Adonis of the East.
Failing to hit the scoreboard
This one sounds too good to be true, but there has been plenty of validation from the Magpies boys so we will run with it. Normally sure under pressure on the field, Wests’ sharpshooter, Taylor Williamson was caught out on a recent date. When he left his date midway through telling her he was off to the bathroom, he ran across the road to a florist he then realised he left his wallet on the table and got caught stealing a rose. The poor girl on the date with him had to pay for dinner and the rose then go with him back to the police station and make a statement.
Win for Gum
Congratulations to Courtney Gum who featured in Melbourne’s 72-26 win over the Western Bulldogs on the weekend. The teams, featuring the best female footballers from across the country, played at Etihad Stadium before a crowd of 5500 as a curtain raiser to the men’s match. The Demons are now two wins from two games, following the inaugural women’s exhibition match last year.
Whiz becomes the buzz word
Rumour has been circulating about the bond between UTS Division One supercoach, Ant Rosen and key forward, Michael May after the Bats’ win over UNSW/ES on Sunday. Rosen was lavish in praise for the "Whiz" whilst commentating for Digital Sports in a guest role. "Whiz" was a common cry even when the ball was up the other end of the ground. Alan Kymantas might have his hands tied to keep the "Whiz" in Premier Division not based on form but rather a man crush.
Caught in a hairy spot
Young St George gun, Daniel Tomlins might rethink his bouffant after it has emerged he was suggestively approached by a man, thinking he was a girl whilst at the fine establishment that is Fusions Nightclub. The man who was believed to be heavily intoxicated quickly regained sobriety on finding out his mistake. Whatever happened to a short back and sides?!
Sneak peak for 20 to 1
Bert Newton may have missed out on a new TV contract but his legacy lives on through 20 to 1- this time celebrating the best current players in the AFL Sydney competition. Danny has got his hands on the top ten and can say four clubs are represented. Names with links to smarts, animals, a leader and a recruit are represented- some with local links and others from preeminent competitions across Australia. Word is there will be a poll afterwards to see who you think is the best player in the competition. Stay tuned.
