Gippsland-based radio station TRFM has signed on as naming rights sponsor of the Gippsland League in a bumper five-year deal.
TRFM will also broadcast one Gippsland League game live every week.
The sponsorship package was negotiated by the AFL Gippsland Commission on behalf of member league, the Gippsland League.
Gippsland League chair Terry Flynn said it was by far the biggest sponsorship deal in the league’s history.
‘‘This is really important for us and it’s a fantastic partnership,’’ Flynn said.
‘‘We’re really looking forward to working with someone who can help us reach our potential.’’
TRFM general manager Grant Johnstone said the deal fit the station’s role as a community organisation and the five-year agreement demonstrated its commitment to local football.
‘‘Everything about it just felt right and in terms of total value it’s by far the biggest ongoing sponsorship deal we’ve signed,’’ Johnstone said.
‘‘We had already decided to call games next year and we think it’s the right time to be calling footy.’’
AFL Gippsland region general manager Travis Switzer thanked TRFM for its support and said it was a big win for the regional commission.
‘‘We understand this is one of the biggest deals for a community league in Victoria and it’s a great example of what the commission can achieve,’’ Switzer said.
‘‘It’s not just about the financial benefits, but the exposure it will give the league.’’
