Goondiwindi have clawed their way into the Allied Pickford's Cup Division 1 top 4 after their impressive 11-point victory over University at Riddles Oval.
The Hawks were able to handle the miserable conditions better and ultimately make the most of their opportunities in front of goal. Goondiwindi led at every change and their opening term of 5 majors set up the victory from the outset.
University's strong defensive third quarter wasn't enough as the Cougars weren't able to produce any damage on the scoreboard.
Returned junior Joseph Verney has given the Hawks another option up forward with the 20 year old booting 3 important majors with regular contributors Leahy and Jardine adding two each as well. Craig Langley and Hawks veteran Steve Collett played pivotal roles and were stand-outs across the four quarters.
Cougars live-wire forward Sam Banim added 4 to his season tally while Brumley and Harley were named the two best Cougars in the 11 point loss.
Goondiwindi ran out 10.5 (65) to 7.12 (54) victors.
In the weekend's other action, young star Corey Bellert as led the Roo's too a hard fought 4-goal victory over South Toowoomba in Pittsworth. The agile midfielder was prolific in the victory that sees the Bombers slide out of the top 4.
It wasn't all good news for Coolaroo as star on-baller Phil Driese went down with an early hamstring injury. Coolaroo 9.14 (68) defeated South Toowoomba 6.8 (44).
Kurt Heier has booted 9 goals in the Redback's big win over the Tigers at Reddies Oval as Warwick steer to a game and half clear on top of the table.
Tigers player/coach Luke Adams stood tall in the heavy defeat but the yellow and black couldn't match Warwick. The Redback's moved 9 - 2 record for the season after their 23.13 (151) to 5.12 (42) win.
