17 - Matthew Carey
Club: Pennant Hills
Age: 27
Position: Half-Forward Flank / Wing
Analysis:
Few have a football resume as impressive as "King" Carey. The Pennant Hills captain has been a perennial face in the representative arena- captaining AFL Sydney last year and also representing AFL NSW/ACT in the Australian Landmark Carnival in 2012. He is at his best when hitting the scoreboard with his raking left boot.
Last season, he kicked 37 goals in 18 games and although he may have started slowly this season, he started hitting his straps prior to injury and is highly respected by opposition sides with his ability to break the game open with his lightning speed and penetrating kick.
In 2008, Carey won the most prestigious award in AFL Sydney, the Phelan Medal, polling 17 votes throughout the year. Captaining his beloved club to a premiership this year would be cream on the cake for Carey.
The top 20 so far:
