Can these Under 12 players be the next AFL superstar?
Chinchilla SUNS - Daniel Griggs
This young 'SUN' is on the rise, Griggs has played in 7 of the second years clubs 9 games. He has been in terrific form, following on from his debut season in 2013. Daniel is more a defensive player but doesn't mind taking the game on as well.
Griggs best game of the season came in Round 6 against Goondiwindi where the young SUNS nearly knocked off the Hawks. Griggs scored one of only two goals in the game and was running riot in the midfield. The SUNS are yet to win a game in 2014 but Griggs may just be the player to lift the rising Chinchilla Under 12's.
Coolaroo - Caleb Back
He is another player to watch, at just 10 years of age Back continues to be one of the navy Roos most consistent contributors. Recently returning from representative duties in the 12&U school-boys team, this young Roo continues to build his reputation as a hard nosed, in and under type player that will do anything for his team mates.
Back doesn't mind sneaking forward and celebrating a goal or two but you will find Caleb most comfortable at the bottom of packs feeding the footy at to his fellow team mates. His best game this season was back in round 7 when the Roos staged an amazing comeback against the Reddies to win by 1-point, Back booted 2 goals in a B.O.G performance through the midfield.
Dalby Swans - Zimmorlei Farquharson
Farquharson will be one of the nicest most polite footballers you will come across and since 2010 Zimmorlei has been proving why girls are just as good footballers as the boys. Farquharson has continued her superb 2013 season with an outstanding 2014. Her ability to break the lines and make something out of nothing is her weapon but her best attribute is her pace and one on one winning ability.
Likened to female AFL Western Bulldogs star Steph Chiocci, Farquharson has a big future ahead of her. Zimmorlei or better known as 'Zimm' at Swannies land continues to add to her growing reputation. Zimm was the different in the Swans round 8 clash against the then undefeated South Toowoomba booting all four of her sides goals from the wing.
Goondiwindi Hawks - Xavier Naismith
An Under 12's career that expands back to 2010, this young Hawk has proven age is no barrier. Naismith has pulled on the green and gold an amazing 61 times in the Under 12's competition and 9 times for the Under 14's. This season has been Naismith’s best season yet, though the Hawks haven't been as successful as they have in the past but in the Hawks two wins Naismith has had a big influence on the result.
Not blessed with height but blessed with plenty of courage and his ability to win the contested footy sets him apart from the rest. Xavier's best game was against the SUNS in the Hawks 48-point win in round 4. Naismith booted 3 majors from the middle and the SUNS couldn't stop the Hawks most consistent player.
Highfields Lions - Jayden Lawson
In only his second year of footy, Lawson is proving to be an important player out at Kratzke Oval. Lawson struggled to find his feet consistently in 2013 but 2014 Lawson has taken massive steps and is the player behind the Lions 4 - 3 start to the McDonald's Trophy season. Defensive runner that sets up a lot of the Lions attacking raids has proven to be a handful for opposition sides.
Lawson dominated in the Lions roaring victory over arch rivals Coolaroo in round 9. Jayden was able to sneak home and boot his first goal of the season but as the Lions continue to see week in, week out Lawson loves setting up his team mates from half-back.
Lockyer Valley Demons - Ethan Shipston
Shipston is the Demons most valuable player, the link up forward come key position come midfielder currently sits second on the Demons goal-kicking leader board but his best attribute is his consistency. Shipston might not be the flashiest of players but he gets out and gets the job done every week, flying under the radar of opposition sides.
Lockyer Valley currently sit 3rd in the McDonald's Trophy and they can thank Mr. Consistency, Ethan Shipston for that. Shipston's best game of the season thus far came against the then 4th placed Tigers in round 7, played a best on ground game from half-forward going through the middle. His ability to find the goals and kick team lifting goals along with his consistency sets him apart from the other Demons.
Toowoomba Tigers - Ray Hamilton
A graduate of the Stingers Under 10's, Hamilton has continued his superb 2013 form into the new season. Hamilton accumulates numerous possessions each week but what he does with the footy on a weekly basis has him close to second to none. His decision making for a top age McDonald's Trophy player is outstanding, setting him up for a big future.
The consistent Tiger roared the loudest in round 1 against the Redback's when the classy midfielder dominated and bagged 3 majors to kick start the 2014 season. From here Hamilton has consistently contributor in all 9 of his games and helped the young Toowoomba side 4 - 5 start to the season.
South Toowoomba Bombers - Jackson Montgomery
In just 10 games this season the AFLDD media BnF predictor has the young Bomber picked to receive votes in 6 of his 10 games. Montgomery is a player that catches every spectator’s eyes but it isn't his "x-factor" that stands out most, it is his team first mantra that is second to none. Jackson is a player that brings team mates into the game and he does this on a regular basis.
Montgomery has had a number of outstanding performances, which is why he is the Bombers most consistent but none more so outstanding then his round 5 game against the Demons. South Toowoomba won by 6-points and Montgomery was the reason behind the victory. In cold and miserable conditions Montgomery brought his team back from a certain loss, bringing every player into the game. But this is new to the red and black, as Montgomery does this regularly be it his side losing or winning, he is the Bombers most consistent.
University Cougars - Callum Banim
Banim is close to the all-round package, quick, good set of hands, gets to the right positions but his best attribute is his consistency in front of the big sticks. Callum currently leads the goal-kicking leader board for the Under 12 McDonald's Trophy, averaging 2.8 goals a game, with a personal best of 6 against Chinchilla on June 8th.
Banim's consistency in front of the goals has been a key note behind the undefeated start to the season the Cougars. Similar to GWS Jeremy Cameron, Banim is hard to match up on and continues to create headaches for opposition sides.
Warwick Redback's - Dawson Wright
More known for his defensive and pressure acts, this young man is another player that has a big future ahead of him. Wright continues to consistently put his body on the line for his Redback’s team mates every week. Young Dawson no matter the game situation will continue to do the little things to create a turn over or put his team mates into space.
Dawson's best game of the season came in his last outing, it was noted he laid a game high amount of tackles including numerous goal-saving pressure acts. Though it was a heavy defeat, this didn't worry Wright as he gave it his all, as he has done 9 games this season.
