Check out the five key talking points after 10 rounds of the AFLDD Under 16 McDonald's Cup.
1. Tom Clark - The Highfields Lions star has only played 6 of the Lions 8 games but opposition teams have no idea how to stop the gun forward. Clark is averaging over 6 goals a game. It doesn't matter who the Lions play this young star knows how to kick goals and big bags of them as well.
2. Final top 4 spot - Finals action is getting closer by the round and talk is that the top 3 are decided, their final positions are just to be determined. But 4th spot is up for grabs. Warwick currently holds that spot with Lockyer Valley and South Toowoomba the most likely to challenge the Reddies for the chance to play finals. All three teams play all teams in the top 4 with maybe a season decider in the final fixture when Warwick take on South Toowoomba. Or will Lockyer Valley be safe by then?
3. Brock Turner - His side may not be setting the competition alight but this rising star from the Central West in NSW is one to watch. With the Tigers 0 - 7 for the season Turner has been the shining light and has been impressive in both the McDonald's Cup and Allied Pickford's Cup. He only needs 8 more goals to bring up his 50 career goals. Not bad for a young player only into his 4th season.
4. Putting the fun back in footy - A lot of players and coaches can get caught up in taking footy too seriously and forgetting to enjoy themselves. One team that has the right balance is the 7th placed University Cougars. They haven't tasted much success in season 2014 but young coach Jackson Savill has his charges ticking the most important box come game day and that is that they are enjoying playing together as a team.
5. Heritage Oval - though only two McDonald's Cup games have been played at the venue, visiting clubs love heading to the picturesque oval in the north of Toowoomba to face the Bombers. It may not be so blissful in the future once South Toowoomba build the venue into a fortress, so for now enjoy the superbly located first class facility.
