Ladies game in lights
It is a busy time of year for most, especially in the women’s game, with a number of events coming up.
On the weekend of 28/29 June, AFL Sydney will be hosting Pick Sock Round- raising funds for Breast Cancer Network Australia (breast cancer awareness). To commemorate the event, we will be selling pink socks. Stocks limited at $12 a pair. To order your pair, email scott.burkinshaw@aflnswact.com.au
Campbelltown have already jumped on board in support of BCNA. They will be auctioning off their jumpers and after raising $5000 last year, they have set the lofty goal of $10000 this year. There will also be a special guest appearance from a local band on the day as well.
On the same weekend is the Melbourne v Western Bulldogs women’s match at the MCG. NSW/ACT's only representative player and current Debbie Lee Medallist & Howarth Trophy winner, Courtney Gum will be representing our league with honour.
You can help donate to help her cover costs of playing in the match at

Manly’s magical mystery bus tour
One of the more historic bus trips to Camden took place last weekend involving Manly-Warringah’s Division Two side. Danny hears it under good authority that the trip back home was delayed for over an hour before Ben Collins agreed to scull two beers, for reasons that continue to remain murky. What inflamed the situation was that none of his teammates were allowed to have drinks till he did it. Rumour has it there is some disharmony in the GIANTS den after this event.
Bulldogs building their links
Kudos goes to the UNSW/ES faithful for hosting an Independent Schools fixture between Cranbrook and Waverley at Village Green. With rain about late in the week, Craig Davis and the crew at UNSW worked hard to get VG ready for an important day in the club’s eyes as they look to build links with two of the main Independent Schools in their area. Both schools were lavish in their praise of the club’s hospitality and the free sausage sizzle after the game!
The Independent Schools competition is in its second year and has grown from 10 to 22 teams with ten schools now fielding sides across three age groups. It will pay for clubs to build links with these schools as the reach their adult years.
Bats in the headlights
It is clear Tom Sundberg is still getting his grips on Sydney geography after his efforts last weekend. What would have normally been a routine trip home from Bruce Purser Reserve became more of a scenic trip as Tom took himself and four other team mates mistakenly down to Wollongong, before realizing it was the wrong direction to get the convoy home. Word is they got home before midnight.
Another one to cop a ribbing at the Bats is the main man, Alan Kymantas. The head coach missed according to a source, three "crucial" training sessions to propose to his now fiancé. Danny isn’t sure whether to condone or discourage such behaviour.
Getting behind the Mannions
It has been a tough time of late for club president, Robert Mannion’s son; Ben. Its been 23 days since Ben’s brain operation and he's doing well having been moved from Westmead hospital to Baulkham Hills Rehab Hospital on Tuesday. He's getting plenty of tucker, physio and OT to get his limbs going again after 3 weeks in bed. He's improving every day and wishes the Goannas boys well. Keep up the hard work Benny.
