The AFL Sydney Round 9 Rising Star nominee is Nick Shaw from St George.
Nicolas (Nick) Shaw is a product of the strong Sydney South Junior Competition having played a starring role in many premierships as part of a very strong Bangor Tigers team.
Nick first came to St George as a top-up player for the U18’s in 2012 making just the 1 appearance before cementing himself as a permanent fixture across the midfield in a very strong Dragons U18 squad in 2013. His good form saw him also make several appearances in Division 1 before being selected to make his first grade debut, chalking up 2 appearances in Premier Division before season end. To cap off an already stellar year Nick was selected to play for the Swans Reserves against a very strong Brisbane Lions outfit and handled himself with aplomb in a heavily beaten team.
After a strong 2014 preseason that saw Nick feature at the top of the time trial and agility tests, he has been a permanent fixture in the St George Premier Division side having played all 9 games this year.
With elite endurance and speed his greatest attributes Nick has provided the Dragons with plenty of run and rebound and has been an integral part of the young Dragons outfit. Nick is just one of many young local juniors that the Dragons have nurtured and with the St George Academy now in full swing it is hoped he is the first of many more that go on to represent the Dragons in the Premier Division.
