The shackles have been released finally, on a chilly and windy Sunday afternoon in Brisbane's west the Darling Downs Crows fought out a nail-biting one point victory.
Playing Calamvale who were ranked second on the ladder before this encounter, the Crows were given no chance to pull off the unthinkable.
But the Crows had different plans.
In difficult conditions the Crows controlled the football and looked more composed, with more run and dash off half-back. The Crows were taking risks but smart risks in the low scoring clash. Harry Claydon and Sam Tasker were proving good targets inside forward 50, creating space in a continuing revolving door.
Tyler Gilmore was colossus down back, repelling a number of the Leopards attacking raids across half-back.
The Crows led at every change in the tight tussle and sent a message to the rest of the competition that they aren't making up the numbers. Birthday boy Abdullah Haddad continued his return from injury with another superb game, his composure and decision making stood out most.
Star player and Troy Clarke Scholarship recipient Tom Matthews dominated in his new role, as a link rover playing predominately between the "50 arc.
Darling Downs ran out 5.4 (34) to 5.3 (33) victors for the first time at Calamvale Community College.
