In a big day of VFL action, winners were Northern Blues, Sandringham, Footscray, Box Hill Hawks, North Ballarat and Geelong.

Bulldogs knock Port off top
Footscray has knocked Port Melbourne off top spot on the VFL ladder with a 36 point win at North Port Oval. The win was the fourth in a row for the Bulldogs, and propelled them into the top four.
Mitch Honeychurch was the chief destroyer with five goals, with fellow TAC Cup graduate Jake Stringer and Jack Redpath kicking three goals for the visitors in the first meeting between the sides since the 1920’s. Nick Lower was among the best for Footscray in the middle, along with Honeychurch and his three final term goals, Lachlan Hunter and Jordan Russell in defence. Dan Connors kicked four first half goals in his return from injury for the Borough, with Toby Pinwill, Tom O’Sullivan, Shane Valenti and James Magner their best.
Zebras return to winners list
Sandringham has stopped a three game losing streak, with an upset win over the inform Collingwood at Trevor Barker Beach Oval. The win was the first for the Zebras since Round 5, and avoided a possible slide out of the VFL top 8 at the end of the round.
Jason Holmes was the key to the win in the ruck, giving first use of the ball to the likes of Shane Savage (29 disposals), Tom Curren (29) and Myke Cook (24). Sam Dunnell kicked four goals for the Zebras, while for Collingwood, Kyle Martin was well held to just the two goals, with Marsh, Kennedy and Hudson their best.
Roosters continue winning run
North Ballarat has continued its meteoritic rise up the ladder, with another come front behind win to defeat Casey Scorpions by 20 points at Eureka Stadium. The win was the fifth in a row for the Roosters, ensuring Gerard FitzGerald’s side remained in the top 8 at the end of the round.
Trailing by 12 point at three quarter time, the Roosters ran all over the Scorpions with four goals to nil, with the 20 point final margin luckily not more with the home side wasting 14 scoring shots to two in the final term. Nick Rippon was the standout with 34 disposals, joined in the best by Trent Dumont (32) and Nick Peters (28). Best for Casey were Alex Georgiou, Viv Michie and Jimmy Toumpas.
Kersten kicks Cats to victory
Geelong has continued its winning ways, with a convincing 77-point win over Coburg. Shane Kersten was the star, kicking six goals to keep the Cats within percentage of entering the top 8. With only two points between the two sides at quarter time, Geelong were able to restrict the home side to a goal in each of the second and third quarters while adding nine of their own to record a convincing win.
Kersten was among the best, along with Jackson Thurlow, Allen Christiansen and Josh Caddy for the Cats, while for Coburg, their best were Daniel Venditti, Adam Saad and Erroll McConnell.
Box Hill back on top
Box Hill Hawks have returned to the top of the Peter Jackson VFL ladder with a come from behind win against Williamstown. Trailing by 10 points at three quarter time, Box Hill Hawks kicked six goals to one in the final term to end the Seagulls four game winning streak.
Dallas Willsmore kicked four goals for the Hawks, with Sam Iles and Alex Woodward among their best players. Scott Clouston was the main target for Williamstown with three goals, with Ben Davies, Nick Meese and Kane Lambert their best.
Blues’ back to back wins
The Northern Blues have regained that winning feeling, stringing together back to back wins defeating Richmond by seven points at Punt Road Oval. Despite leading all game, the Blues were challenged in the second half but were able to hold on late for their fifth win of the season.
Blaine Johnson and Tyson Thomas kicked three each for the Blues to be in their best, along with Andrew McInness and Paul Dirago.Liam McBean kicked three for Richmond, with Ross Young, Matt Arnot and Nathan Batsanis their best.
