The match of the round will be between last year’s two bottom teams – Ardmona and Longwood. Longwood came into the game full of confidence after recording its first win of 2014. David Kantilla and Josh McDonald were the key focal points for the Redlegs’ in the win against the Tigers while the other key contributors were Rodney Moreen, Dylan Kerinaiua, Bradley Triplett, James Puautjimi and William Murray.
Ardmona will be looking to be much more competitive early in the contest and it must be to chalk up its third win of the season. The Cats have been really competitive in most games this season and the for and against is evidence of that improvement.
Thomas Durward, Ashton Cashion, Shaun Huggard, Nicholas Airs, Luke Kenny and Matthew Dipace were the key contributors in the loss to Avenel and they will need to fire for the Cats to continue the climb up the ladder.
Two of the premiership contenders – Merrigum and Stanhope go head to head and we were find out about both these teams around 4.30 pm this afternoon. The Bulldogs are on top of the ladder and go into this contest minus the McNamara Medallist in Josh Pell. Pell will be off overseas for 4-6 weeks.
Stanhope will be missing Jungala Ellis after he hurt his hamstring in the big win over Lancaster. He has been a real find for the Lions this year along with Eric Edwards. Edwards has been a real focal point for the Lions, kicking 17 goals in the past two wins.
Thomas Hepburn, Klint Wagstaff, Jarrad Mason, Lachlan West, Michael Coad and Craig Emmett were other key contributors while the Bulldogs were best served by Ramadan Yze, David Matthews, Damien Scarcella, Jonathan Barnett, Luke Dowdell and Graeme Giles.
Lancaster will be eager to bounce back after putting up its worst performances of 2014 when completely brushed aside by Stanhope last weekend. Coach Paul Burnett would have done some soul searching ahead of the match-up with Violet Town.
The Towners’ had a good win against Girgarre thanks largely to the contributions of Samuel Poole, Sean Horsburgh, Bo Harrison, Ben Dyer, Ryan Smyth and Taygen Sage.
Lancaster was best served by Nicholas Bertoli, Zachary Cerrone, Andrew Douglas, Thomas Davies, Heath Barnett and Michael Orr. A win is paramount for the Wombats to return to the top six after slipping out with the 14 goal loss to Stanhope.
Avenel will be out to consolidate its place in the top six by taking care of Girgarre. The Swans were ruthless early in the contest last week and finished off the game very well. Michael Dundon, Donald Stirling, Michael Morgan, Joshua Brinkhuizen, Jeremy Meek and Callum Williams will be players coach Cam Gillett looks to continue their good form while Mark Patten hopes the likes of Paul Parsons, Ashley Hughes, Joel Regan, Ryan Jones, Christopher Milnes and Mathew Hughes can play four quarters to give the Roos a real chance of victory.
Murchison should continue the tough year for Rushworth in 2014. The Tigers have been hit hard by injury and have lost a couple of games coach Jacob Lloyd would have pencilled in at the start of the season. If they don’t turn up and give a four quarter effort they will be on the end of a big defeat. Murchison has good players on every line and plenty of players who can help them kick a winning score.
Nagambie will be fresh from a bye and a win against reigning premier Murchison the week before when it takes on Tallygaroopna. After three consecutive wins, including an away win against Avenel, Tallygaroopna suffered a huge reality check when it beaten by Murchison. The Redlegs’ will need to apply plenty of pressure to a team that is improving each week. The Lakers are likely to be stronger than the team that conquered the reigning premier two weeks ago. Michael Shiels and Josh Comi are two guys that are a chance to play for the Lakers after missing the last up win.
My tips: Nagambie, Murchison, Avenel, Lancaster, Stanhope and Longwood.
