Two out of three ain’t bad
We start off this week’s Diatribe with good news on the representative scene. Both the men’s and women’s senior sides scored impressive victories over AFL Canberra on Saturday evening while Garry has bragging rights in the Burkinshaw household as the Under 23’s team went down to an impressive (and tall) Black Diamond side.
Congratulations also should be passed onto Nickleback lead singer look-a-like Brayden Fowler who was Best on Ground in the Men’s clash courtesy of an eight goal haul. Word from the AFL NSW/ACT offices is that Steph Walker has been re-enacting her four running bounces that led to her being named best afield.
The buy-in of all was particularly pleasing especially given we had new head coaches in Roger Moten (Senior Men) and Dean Connors (Senior Women).

Kids these days
An area for improvement in next year’s Representative team is the favourite drinks of some of the players. Danny is and always is a VB man but was horrifying to hear after the game that some of the beverages of choice included UDLs and Smirnoff’s
Ted Widmer and Hayden Washington provided some quality banter along with the drinks on the bus home from Newcastle. Ted truly made up for the awful attempted prank involving the valuables bag on the Under 23s skippers earlier in the day.
"Decoy" Washington was also more than willing to get to know the Newcastle locals but may have to watch when and what he says in future.
Pre-game rituals
We asked the Facebook community about those in club land with pre-game rituals. Some interesting revelations include;
Brian Currant known for a cigarette and a coffee pre-game
Adrian Hill being a regular at an unnamed nightclub drinking pina coladas
David Stroud likes watching highlights of himself dominating
Brains or brawn
Fundraisers are crucial for any club and there will be extra interest to see if any footballer can mix it with the best off the field.
UNSW/ES will be holding a Trivia Night this Saturday at the Bondi RSL (7.30pm) start. The cost is $20 per person with tables of 8. Email Dennis Rider (Don) at dennisrider@y7mail.com for a spot.
Camden will host it’s annual Trivia night on Saturday 21 June at the Merino Tavern Camden, cost is $5.

Beards of Hope
Finally, congratulations are extended to the Nor-West Jets who raised $2,135.25 for Beards of Hope. The charity supports families who experience the heartbreaking loss of their beautiful baby through a miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal or infant loss. 1 in 4 pregnancies end in loss and 6 babies are born still every day in Australia- those are scary statistics. Let us know if you are fundraising for a good cause, or if you have any gossip within your club. Send Scott Burkinshaw an email at scott.burkinshaw@aflnswact.com.au who will send all the details to Danny.
