Footy Heads, what a great weekend of footy we had in #AFLOrd3! Some great games, some arm wrestles and some upsets.
The season continues to get better every week and I for one am enjoying every bit of it. Here is my review from the weekends games.
No thanks to the Rebels or Wildcats who failed to submit their reports.
Roos 18.7.115 def Eagles 8.2.50
Despite only having 16 players and the Eagles matching, the Roos came out of the blocks hard with a 6 goals to one first quarter. The Eagles were able to rally in the second and narrowed the margin to 13 points at half time, winning the second quarter. But once again in the second half, the Eagles ran out of legs and were run over by the Roos who piled on 10 goals to the Eagles 2.
Lake kicked 5 goals from the middle in a best on performance for the Roos while Cuzner created many opportunities across half forward and kicked 6 himself.
Koens was good again as was Marsh for the Eagles while Falcioni added another 4 goals to his tally for 2014.
Phantom Starting #AFLOrd3 1 from 1.
Demons 12.11.83 def Blues 8.9.57
The first of two games at Humber on Saturday, the Demons jumped to an early lead kicking 5 goals to 1 in the first quarter and putting the Blues on the back foot.
The Blues were missing Goedheer, Wills and Daws in this one but were still well represented by Kien La and Chopper while Doc and Lock kicked 3 a piece.
But it was the Demons who stole the show and while the Blues showed some fight in the 3rd quarter, the Demons nailed the coffin shut in the last. Neil Casey continued his early season form with 6 goals at full forward while Doggett and Sammutt chipped in with 2 a piece. Tinglin was lighting up the field with his pace and Anjou was also getting a lot of it.
Phantom now 1 from 2 in Round 3.
Dingos 20.10.13 def Wildcats 1.8.14
The Wildcats were short so this game was played at 16 a side with the Cats missing a bench all together. To their credit they came out of the blocks hard with Justin Kitney kicking the opening goal.
But after that it was all Dingos as their midfield ran into space all day and carved up the field. Humphries, Aitken and Duggan had plenty of it while Neville kicked 5 in his first ever game as a Dingos. Seems like all the old Dogs came out to play this weekend as Tinks kicked 3 and McFarlane 2 - apparently not retired. The best players for the Catters were Sherwood, McDowall and Lowry.
Phantom 2 from 3 in #AFLOrd3.
Rebels 9.11.65 def Swans 5.9.39
The Rebels travelled to Ottawa on the weekend and put on a dominant display leading at every change. Bodnar kicked 4 goals and Bormann 2 in his 200th appearance for the Rebels. Their best players were Prendergast and Karavias in a physical contest in the Nation's Capital.
The Swans were disappointed to have lost this one and now sit 1-2 for the season. Powell kicked 3 goals and their best players included Robinson, Crimmins, Roffey and Strom.
Sorry not to have more info on this game but with only the Swans report to go on, I am really only going from Sporting Pulse and their report. Congratulations to Peter Bormann on the big achievement.
Phantom struggling at 2 from 4 games.
Hawks 12.11.83 def Gargoyles 12.7.79
A heavy hitting contest at U of T, the Hawks came away from this one with a late goal after trailing the Gargoyles at 3 quarter time by 5 points. There was never more than a goal in this one at any change, an even game from start to finish.
The Hawks Australian contingent was as dominant as ever with Shutts kicking 4, Killa 3 and Dullard and Stirling 2 each in this thriller in Scarborough. Killa was judged best on ground in this game and looks like he is a new force to be reckoned with in the competition.
The Gargoyles best on ground was Kerm after I called him out, Logel kicked 5 and Dyer 2 although he was out of the game late in the game when the Hawks kicked a goal with 2 minutes left to steal the Victory. Although Broadview did dominate the scoring in the final quarter kicking 3.4 to 2.1.
The Gargoyles showed they are a better team than their current 1-2 position so watch out for them in the coming weeks and down the stretch.
Phantom finishing 3 from 5.
2XU Player of the Round
This weeks 2XU Division 1 Player of the Round is Daniel Kilpatrick of the Broadview Hawks with 3 goals in a Best on Ground against the Grand River Gargoyles. "Killa" has been setting the league on fire early on this season and creating trouble for all oppositions. I expect we will be hearing a lot more of him in the coming weeks. Congratulations Killa.

Demons 6.13.49 def Blues 6.5.41
A close encounter for the opening game of the Blues season saw them go down narrowly to the Dees who once again were short of numbers. Bodashefsky kicked 2 goals in a best on ground performance for her new club and Voth kicked 3 goals.
The Demons were led by Loughnane with 3 goals and Cummings with 2 as they probably could have won by more when you consider the scoring shots were Demons 19 to Blues 11.
I am happy to see the Blues are much improved as I predicted, although it was very interesting to see Costanza in the Demons line up?
Phantom 1 from 1 to start Round 3 of Women's action
Roos 7.4.46 def Wildcats 4.13.37
In their second encounter in as many weeks, the Roos were bolstered by having Sylvie DeB in the line up while the Wildcats missed Kwan and Commoli.
Court kicked 4 goals for the Roos while Madison Amaral continued her strong early season form. The Roos would have been extremely happy to come away with this win as they were on the losing end of the scoring shots.
The Wildcats will rue a missed opportunity early in the season due to some seriously inaccurate kicked. Arman kicked 2 for the Hamilton ladies and Spicer was strong in defence all day.
Phantom 1 from 2 to finish the Women's Round 3 action.
That is all for this week, Footy Heads. See you Friday for the #AFLOrd4 predictions, another huge round coming up!
