Both sides are very confident that they can grab the win and should make for a tantalising contest. The game will be played at 1pm at Newcastle No. 1 Sportsground.
AFL Sydney and Black Diamond have played each other twice, in 2008 and 2010, with the boys from the Harbour City getting the chocolates both times.
Chris Hughes will coach the side and will receive support from UNSW/ES Premier Division Coach Daniel Lynch, UNSW/ES Women's coach Tracey Kick and Mark Maher. This will be Hughes third year as coach of the Under 23 side.
Sydney's back six will be concentrating on not allowing their opponents to take uncontested marks inside forward 50. 2013 AFL Sydney Rising Star Levi Sands will provide good composure back there.
The St George trio of Dom Killworth and brother Tom and Harry Green will be looking to give their forwards first use of the ball and provide good linkage between the backs and forwards.
Up forward, Manly Warringah's Hayden Washington will be the focal point and will be looking to have a day out. If the weather gods don't shine upon Newcastle No. 1, it will be the small forwards in Alex Foote and Jack McKinlay who could become very dangerous when the ball hits the deck.
The Black Diamond side will be led by Terrigal Avoca's Coach Chris Bishop and will be well backed up by Assistant Coach Courtney Knight. Bishop was awarded the AFL NSW/ACT Coach of the Year in 2013.
The back six for the Black Diamond will be looking to provide plenty on run out of defence with quick ball movement and precise skills. Liam Gibson, playing his 10th year of representative footy, will provide good experience in the back third.
Black Diamonds midfield oozes class with reigning Elliot Davey Medallist James Webster looking to dominate the clearances and rack up possessions around the ground. If Sydney can minimise his impact they will go a long way of winning the contest. Man mountain Jacob Dawes will be hoping to give his midfield first use of the ball from the ruck.
The forward line of the Black Diamond will be an intimidating force with most of them standing over 6 foot tall. In form forward Courtney Knight will be looking to continue his impressive form from this year going.
Hopefully the rain will stay away and the skills of both sides can be on full display.
